I am still shopping for the right tractor. I have narrowed it down to Kubota or NH. I like the subject tractors, they fit my large frame. The question I have is, I plan on finish mowing one acre and using the mower deck raised up to keep my field down(only hay). I like the 60" MMM for getting around my one acre's terrain(hilly). But I have concerns about the 60" not being outside the width of the tires. Especially if I put the wheels out as far as I can. Which I would want to do for stability. Do turfs or ind/bar make a difference on how wide you can go with the wheels?

I just think the 72" would be too big to get around easily on my yard.


P.S. I also looked at the TC30, just didn't feel as good as the 29/33D. I know a guy that has one and loved it until the hst pedal wouldn't return to neutral(level?) for 5 seconds or so. Had it fixed once at the dealer but it is doing it again. Is there a way to find service bulletins on NH equipment? Has anyone heard of this problem on their NH tractor?

Bob, Usually the AGs are the narrowest, followed by the turfs and then the industrial. Problem is AGs tear up the lawn the most. I would go with the turfs personally in your circumstance. Without actually seeing your property, advice is tough. If you need to get tight around obstacles you might want to look into a supersteer model. If you have trees or shrubs you need to get close to, you might have to finish up with a small push mower. I use a Honda 4518 tractor with 38" deck on my front lawn and I still have to touch up around the flowers and bushes with a push mower. Trouble is you need the size tractor to fit you and that works against you in manuverability. The new TC24 could be the ticket - IF it fit you. The 72" deck is absoultely too big based on what you're saying.
TC30 is an older design with few features built for a price. Better in my opinion than the JD 790 or Kubota L3000, but not what you're looking for.

You can't vary the width of the wheels/tires on the TC29/TC33 with R4/Industrial tires. The only setting is about 60" outside to outside of the back tires. I had the same concerns as you about a 60" mower deck not covering the tractor's tracks. I've used a 60" KK rear finish mower for 2 years now and can't see any disadvantage. But then, my yard isn't exactly like a golf green. More like a hillside pasture, really.
Tire choice is always controversial. I've heard that turfs can be very slick on wet grass. R4's are a compromise that I can live with. Sometimes I wish for ag tires, but they wouldn't be practical for finish mowing.

I own the TC29D with SS , a 60" MMM and Industrial tires. I too have a very hilly yard (2 acres) and many trees to cut around. I also cut an additional acre with the deck raised as high as possible. The ind. tires give me plenty of traction although they can do some damage if the ground is wet, remember to go slow and don't turn sharp. I would never be able to get around all the trees with a 72" MMM and have no problems with the 60" deck. The front tires are the ones that will flatten the grass before the MMM has a chance to cut it, not the back. ....

How do you like SS? How much more did you pay for it?

Could you still to your finish mowing without SS?

I love the SS, and no, I couldn't do the finish work without it. Too many trees on the side of a large hill, I won't trim around them by hand again!

When I bought my CUT, I was'nt sure if I wanted RED or Blue, so I pitted the 2 dealers against each other. The Case does not make one with SS and all the NH dealer had at the time was one with SS. But since I was trying to compare "apples to apples" I told him I did not want the SS. To get the sale, he offered me the SS for $100, the whole setup still came in $200 lower than the Case! Since I liked both dealers and they are about the same distance from me, I jump at it, and have no regrets.
