Has anyone ever had an issue with this? Mine - no matter how hard I turn the cap - I can't get it loose. I have now tried so hard that it moves like 1/4". My concern now is that I have somehow stripped the plastic in the cap. Anyone know anything about this? I am thinking I can pop off the cap cover and loosen that nut to get to what ever is stuck. Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem with a TC29D tractor that I just bought. I too have yet to find the solution to the problem if you find one I would love to hear it. Sorry I couldn't help. ....

That's the first I have heard of the telescoping part being stuck, most everyone else (including myself) has had the tilt cylinder freeze or break. Can't recall how they operated but if you plan on keeping the tractor perhaps you can purchase a shop manual from the dealer that details the breakdown of the column and shows you how to get at it. Just a thought. ....

The factory Service Manual (Section 9 page 28) says it like this: "Remove the steering wheel center cap (by prying it off???), then loosen the retaining nut. The telescoping knob and nut must be removed from the steering wheel".
From the pix. in the book it looks easy enough.
I just got my 2002 33D and I noticed that from the side standing next to the wheel I can see that the "retaining nut" or threads are badly rusted. ....

Mike,
The piston used has the actuator on the top and it allows water to rust it into position. Spray a good penetrating oil into the top of it and work the lever, eventually it will probably free itself up. You should call your dealer if it is under warranty and see if they will replace the cylinder, they have had a great deal if trouble with them. ....
