I have a John Deere 750 tractor made by Yanmar the I bought used. The engine was disasembled. Besides missing some parts I've discovered that the block is cracked. The engine is a Yanmar 3T90J 104 cid which is a probrietary engine made by Yanmar for John Deere and the parts are apparently only available from John Deere.
What I want to know is if there is another Yanmar engine that would fit in the 3T90J's place and what that engine model would be. Also I would like to know a source new or used for the replacement engine.

Not a lot of help here. There are tractor salvage yards that can be found on the net, although many handle mostly farm tractor parts. Salvage yard parts people often are in the max and match business and staff at a good yard may know how well Yanmar and Yanmar/JD engines cross. However, I wouldn't expect too much. Many proprietary things are intentionally designed to limit the ability of consumers to use parts from outside the manufacturer's system.
If this is a low budget effort, I wouldn't give up on the block. Some blocks with cracks and even holes can be repaired with varying degrees of success. Generally, the lower down the crack the better the potential for repair. Engines that have thrown rods through the block have been repaired provided the hole is below the cylinders.

You could get the blocks from Country Tractor, but they were rolled into a CA firm that when bankrupt. They repaired the blocks also.
If you decide to repair the block you need to make sure that the people are familiar with doing it. Ideally they need to stress releave the repair or it will crack again. A large oven for the hole block is nice.
Cast iron is full of stress when cast. Hot iron is pored into a cold sand mold. The surface is harder than the core and with heat cycling is releaved over time.
One of the old hot rod tricks was to find a high mile car in the wreckers and use the block to rebiuld a new race motor. The old block was stress releaved and faired better than a new factory fresh block.
