Which Compact?OK everyone, I've been reading as many of these as I can, now I need some specific opinions. I'm in the process of building my home on 15 acres. I intend on doing the landscaping myself. Once the house is done I want to be able to mow both my lawn (around trees and shrubs) and a 4.5 acre seeded, flat, smooth pasture. Assuming I will need a loader and belly mower. Live PTO? Which tractor? New? Used? I'm posting this on Kubota and Deere.

It's tough to get one machine to do it all. Loaders & mowers really require opposite ends - the loader needs power, traction & weight, while the mower needs lightness and smooth tires.I would suggest that a rear 3-point mower would be better than a belly mower when you want to use the same tractor with a loader, but you may have valid reasons for your choice. Belly mowers don't work well, if at all, with a loader mounted, and it is a pain to remove & swap.--->Paul ....

You don't say how big your lawn is. Most 3-pt mowers, belly mowers, etc. costat least as much as a relatively inexpensive lawn tractor. I recommend gettinga lawn tractor for a small lawn, and get a small tractor sized to the implementsyou plan to use. ....

I have no experience with a belly mower with a loader but deere claims you can have both on at the same time.Me, I opted for a 5' 3pt finishing mower, to save $600, and for ease of removal, although I am told that the belly mower is just as easy to remove.I bought a JD 4100 gear with loader and am really impressed at what the little tractor will do. Being small, it keeps the weight down which is important for mowing. This seems like a good class tractor for lawn mowing to earthmoving, as long as you do not mind a few extra trips. A small Tractor means a small bucket on the loader. Also remember, if looking at a 4100, JD does not make a hoe for it! ....

Guy, I have the same type situation, and I opted for the Deere 4200 4x4 hydro with the 420 loader and R4 tires. I use a 5' full-floating finish mower. 4+ acres of yard with trees and natural areas. My 4200 is on order and am currently using my other compact tractor to do the job. Good luck. Kevin ....
