I’ve never heard of the make, and it’s is curious how Kubota gauges would be used by seemingly another manufacturer. Maybe something like Kubota changed their gauge design and who ever made Kubota gauges got stuck with a bunch and sold them to somebody else. Don’t know. I wonder where the owner said the tractor came from. I suppose it’s possible that the tractor really is a Kubota and it’s just heavily customized—sort of a joke like ‘Zen and the Art of Tractor Customization.’ Anyway, you might check the ID’s usually found on the TX case and engine block to see if they are typical Kubota numbers.

Maybe somebody else knows the make and then it will be another gray market tractor—a possible bargain but with unknown parts and dealer support. If nobody else has heard of the make and it seems to be a Kubota, it would be good to make sure to exactly where the tractor came from. However, that attitude, is left over from my days in the motorcycle trade where it was normal for very unusual bikes to show up and usually with the police looking for various bits and pieces of them.

If you'll change the spelling to Komatsu Zenoah, I think you'll be able to find a little more information about them, but I don't know anything about them personally. ....

Zen Noh is a Japanese Farmers Cooperative that buys tractors from Kubota and Yanmar and sells them under their own name. Kumai is another coop and they sell Mitsubishis the same way. It is the same as Sears selling Craftsman or Kenmore products that were built by another company. ....

Ah ha! Information clarity and humour. All the usual ingredients of this Board--save the gum batting that is my usual responsibility.

A good question might be: If it's really a Kubota, can a N.A. Kubota dealer support the tractor? It could be a real bargain in that case. However, there probably is something built into the arrangement that keeps coop and dealer Kubotas from being treated exactly the same. For example, even though Ford compacts use Shibaura engines, many of the Ford and Shibaura engine parts aren’t interchangeable even though they're the same engines. Depending on the asking price, it might be well worth checking out.

Your local Kubota probably won't support it. The Zen-Noh is what is known as a grey market tractor. Some of them were identical to the ones imported and sold as new Kubotas but with different model numbers. Some of the tractor are not like ones sold here in the U.S.. Kubota has been very clear about there position on the grey markets, they will not support them. One dealer told me that they were told if a Kubota rep found one in their shop they would lose their dealership. I don't know how much truth there is in that statement, but Kubota did file a lawsuit to keep the grey market Kubotas from being imported and that is a fact.

Mostly I'm in favour of supporting dealers. If everybody does end-runs on them, then they go out of business and everybody has problems. Dealer prices have in part to do with exchange rates and policies of the distributor/manufacturer company in a particular country. Dealers don't have control over these factors.

Still, a serious bargain would be tempting. An AGCO dealer about half the distance as my NH dealer says he would be happy to work on my 1710 and they can order parts from NH same as anybody else. It's probably possible to maintain a coop Kubota with a set of Kubota manuals and an independent mechanic. I suppose it would be difficult to be certain that all parts are identical to dealer parts though.
