A new Post Page has been added which allows members to store their Userids on their local machine.The new form preloads you login and password data for you automaticaly after the first time you log saving you the need to login each time you respond to a message.To use this feature you must have cookies enabled on your browser.This feature will be available shortly for new threads, and very soon for followup messages.Dennis

New Post screens are now up for both NEW and FOLLOWUP messages please email me at jplan@jplan.com if you are having any difficulty posting messages.
The new screens should allow your local computer to save your Userid and Password on your local machine in a "Web Cookie" so that you don't have to relogin from that machine once it is set.

Dennis: I know your post said to e-mail you, but maybe there's some info here that might save others some aggravation. I used to new format for several days without enabling cookies. It made me work a bit, but that's the way I intended to use the site. Some of the news and software sites I use want to set a dozen or so cookies before the site is fully loaded. I figure those cookies provide no benefit to me, and I don't want to enable cookies without prompts, so I usually disable them. However, today I got HTTP 404 error page several times when I tried to respond to a post. I believe the first time I tried there was a window that asked if I wanted my password saved, and I responded 'no,' and I got the 'page not found' screen thereafter. I eventually allowed the cookie and now the format seems to work as advertised. I'm not sure if there was a script change yesterday that prevents the format to work without the cookie as it did before, but, it's a small problem even if true. Guess I'll just have to remember to enable cookies while here. ....

Actually, I was fixing things up last night, and as I was fixing little things, as sometimes happens I undid a BIG thing.
All should be well now.
In regards to cookies with IE it is possible to allow cookies on selected domains like "jplan.com" and not elsewhere.
If you use IE, the version I have is 6.0, goto:
Tools/Internet Options/
Privacy Tab
Edit (Lower right corner , for individual web sites)
For address of Web Site type
http://jplan.com and/or http://www.jplan.com
Click on allow cookies
This way you can take advantage of posting without having to type your userid, and still maintain your cookie exclusion on other domains.
Hope this helps and thanks Tom for the Heads up on the error

Dennis: Thanks for the note. It's good to know about IE6 features. I'm running IE5.5 and limping along with a partially corrupted W98--thanks to myself with some help from anti-virus/windows maintenance software. Also thanks to the design of the MS site which lead me to replace my IE with a network version that doesn't allow me to use the MS site to download W98 fixes and upgrades. I probably have to reinstall W98 and all applications software to cure the problem. It seems like a lot of trouble for a Pentium II system, so I'll just keep limping until the aggravation motivates me to buy a new machine. In the meantime, your site looks like it works just fine (with or without cookies) during my limping phase. ....

I have continued with my site improvemnet efforts and hopefully did not undo anything last night.The latest improvement, um or Change ;>), is that new users don't have to use their email address as their Userid. But all of us OLD users still have the same email based userid for now, but that will change soon.As yet another improvement or Um change I am creating a User Profile page that will allow the rest of us to change our email addresses and Userid's, as well as submit information about us.If any problems arise with the system during these changes please post a message or failing that email me at jplan@jplan.comThanks,Dennis ....

Long Time members may wish to rejoin the CTB.
The CTB is now using a new membership program which allows members to have "regular" userids instead of hard to type email addresses.
Userid's will also be your display name with your post.
Members who joined prior to the change and have userids based on email addresses should rejoin the CTB with a new user name, ie. the name you normally post with. This will prevent someone joining the CTB with the name you are currently using.
Hope this is not too confusing!
I still have a bug in the new posting system that truncates the message subject, and the identity of the reply to message for 1 in 10 replies. If you have seen this problem you will see the message under the "Chat" listing but not elsewhere. If you have this problem please email me with your browser type and what page you were accessing when this happened etc... ....
