I have been looking at what I would consider the 4 main compact tractor companies, NH, Deere, Massey and Kubota. I have not seen too much information on Massey and am curious to hear from people who have purchased Massey tractors. I have been looking at the 30-35 hp range, with loader.

I don't own a Massey, but the guy who sold me my Yanmar in Denver 20 years agohas turned into a pretty good friend......He is the MF dealer and so I alwaysgo to look at the new ones and try them out. Frankly, I am impressed. They are built very sturdy - more so than most brands. The company seems to be very conservative on engine and drivetrain mods....which is good. The fit and finishis certainly up to the standards of JD (Yanmar), NH, and Kubota. You picked four makes that are at the very top of the heap in most opinions. A couple ofthings that impress me about the Massey is that it has a lot of room on the operator's platform. The other makes always seem to be a tighter fit to get ontoand off of. Also, the Massey is quiet running. So is the NH, with Kubota and JDsomewhat less so - that's my opinion anyway....and I'm interested in others. So why haven't I bought a Massey for myself? I don't know....all of them aregood. In fact, I have this sneaky suspicion that the new Masseys are the best.Its just sort of a comfort and brand loyalty thing I guess that makes mestick with Yanmar and JD. It's not a mechanical issue.................Roger ....

I think Roger's comments about dealers are right on the money. I, too, looked at "all the brands" and decided on the Kubota -- not because they have zircon-encrusted framus bearings, but because the Kubota dealer is someone I think I can trust. On the other hand, although I thought the MF was much more tractor for the money, but the MF dealer closest to me is an extremely sleazy and repulsive character whom I do not trust.All other things being equal (and they often are), your confidence in the dealer will determine what tractor you buy. ....

I think that all 4 companies sell a good product.Kind of like the major auto companies.Once again,it's the dealer that is going to support you and your tractor.I know our local Massey dealer would go to any length to attain someones business,and to any length to take care of any problems you might have.Two things to bear in mind are ;dealer support and resale value.With the prices of these compacts,resale is a big issue with me.From what I've seen the Masseys have very little plastic on them;fenders,hood,etc.Not all compacts can say that any more.The "Consumer Market"on lawn care and compacts is getting to be VERY competitive .So,shop smart and have fun with what ever tractor you decide to buy. ....

The one nice thing about the Massey dealer in this area is that he primarily deals with farmers. He seems to be more understanding that this is a large chunk of cash that I am going to be spending. Additionally the local NH and Kubota dealers are mainly rental agencies with the tractors just being a side line. Unless I hear differently from someone about problems with Massey compact tractors I will probably buy one. I am going in thinking that the resale value might not be as great as the others but then again I am planning on have this for awhile and at this point cant worry about 15 years down the road. Go for it! If I had the cash, I'd pull the trigger on a MF1240. Best in it's class in my opinion. ....

Well, I'm glad to hear some other voices out there that think the Massey is anice machine. Paul, I don't think you will go wrong with any of the "Big 4" thatyou mention. Whichever one you get will probably make you a convert, so it mightas well be with a dealer that you enjoy doing business with. I believe you are correct in that the resale will be lower on the Massey thanthe Deere. But by the time you want to sell it you probably won't much care. Roger ....
