Thanks for all the info I've gathered so far. A newbie in the market for a compacttractor. Currently leaning toward the Kubota 7500 or NH 18. It'll have a preferably 60" mower and more than likely a front end loader. It takes 4.5 hours with a 42" cut 18 HP MTW to cut the yard here, it's time to move up. Upon discussing finish mowers with my brother he says that the cut is not nearly as good as regular lawn tractor as I use now, he says the cut is too wide and there are high/low gaps. The yard is big and has dips, knolls, etc since we live in easternKY. Tell me all you can. Do dealers demo ? My first post...I hope it's correct.May is Bluegrass Music Month. Bluegrass, Pick It Up!

I have a JD4400/HST with a loader and a 60" belly mower. This package does an incredible job on the lawn. My only problem is that when I bought the package originally, the lawn at the home we were in was very open, our new home is an older yard with a lot of trees to cut around. The loader, at least the bucket, needs to be off of the tractor to get around the yard easily when we mow. ....

Bo, you say your brother tells you the bigger mower on a tractor won't do as pretty a job as the 42" one you're using now? Is that only because of the size and the fact that the yard is not level? Or is he talking about the difference between a "riding lawnmower" and a tractor powered "finish mower"? If it's because of the difference in the mowers, I'd say he's mistaken; the finish mower cuts as pretty as a riding lawnmower. If it's because of the terrain, then yes, he may be right, and of course, you'd probably get an even better cut with a 21" walk behind, too. LOL. Just depends on how much time you have, or want to use, mowing. ....

One more vote for the "big" mowers. My 72" Toro Groundmaster did a very professional job. About half the time of 48" deck. JT ....

The yard is a yard not a lawn (we're hillbillies), it's got it share of humps, bumps rolls. I guess I'll ask them to demo at mower, if they won't do that then I guess it's back to thinking again.
As far as a big mower like the professional lawn care provider use will not be consider since it just a lawn mower, and I want something that can do other chores. It's not a knock on those big mowers they are awesome at cutting grass.

When I lived in town I used a Craftsman mower with 42" deck to mow an acre. When I got my 2710 and used my 3-point 60" finish mower I couldn't tell any difference - if anything the big mower cut prettier. ....

Bo-man Yup with a "YARD" you'll get some scalping and some trenching (where the side of the mower drops in a low spot) with the big decks. A 3 section 48" batwing would be the cats-meow. BUT very pricey. Very few people can tell those little dings as they drive by anyway. I was on my JD112 with a 48" deck over 6 hours a mowing still had to trim. My JD4400 with 72" I am 1.5 hours plus a couple of hours to trim it all. I only trim sections every other week or 2. You could get 4 21" mowers hooked as a gang set, up start them all and have at it. Get the big deck and with your bucket flatten out the humps and fill in the valleys as you feel like it. ....
