What size rotary mower can be comfortably used on a 755? I'm debating between buying a 4' or 5'. thanks,Don M

Don't know how your 755 compares to my 790. I seem to remember that they are at least kinda close... I just bought the 790 and I only have about 4 hours in the seat - most of that using a Brush hog. With that said up front - I went ahead and bought a 5 foot rotary tiller and used it to turn over a existing garden that had not been touched in two years. My soil was moist, clayish, and has a few small rocks. No problems for me - although I admit this probably wasn't a very big task in the first place. Maybe somebody with more experience will junp in.... ....

Sorry I read "Rotary Tiller" instead of "Rotary Cutter"...
Mine is a four footer. Remember my 4 hours in the seat - But the tractor dosen't even seem to notice that the cutter is there. ....

Don. While over at the JD dealer the other day, I picked up a little "sales pitch" booklet called "4000 Series Tractors vs Competition." [Product information Handbook AKCPI-502, published July 2000] In the back of the booklet there is a section on the compatibility of John Deere implements with non-current JD compact utility tractors. Both 60-in. (the 261) and 72-in. (the 272) 3-point hitch rotary mowers (grass mowers) are listed as compatable, horsepower wise, with the JD755. The only rotary cutter (brush cutter) listed as compatable with the JD755 is the model 413, which I assume is the 4-foot (??) brush cutter. The 513 (5-foot ??) and 613 (6-foot ??) brush cutters are listed as too big for the horsepower of the JD755. If you can track down a copy of that sales pitch booklet at a JD dealer, you can easily look up what size implement Deere thought appropriate for your horsepower tractor. Hope this helps. ....

Got the booklet, thanks for the tip. One thing that jumps out at me in reading the implements available is this: There is not a rear blade shown as matching up with the 755-955 or 4100 tractors. Does this just mean JD is not competitive in small blades and so doesn't even offer one? Or does it mean they don't think the tractor can handle a 5' or 6' blade??? The blades don't weigh all that much, so I wonder what's going on? I realize it might not be the weight, but the strain of using the blade that counts. But still....

Don. On pages 124-125 they do list rear blades for the 755-955 tractors, but you're right about the 4100 ... there's not a rear blade mentioned for it anywhere, even in some other sales literature for the 4x00 series tractors I looked through. I guess it's most likely that since Deere doesn't currently make a rear blade under 6-ft. they don't bother mentioning what size blade to use on the 4100. I can't imagine a 4100 having a problem with a 4 or 5-ft. blade. The JD670 had less horsepower than the 4100 and could handle a 5-ft. rear blade. But who knows? ....

Thanks for the info. From info I have gleaned here and elsewhere, I have settled on a 5' rear blade and a 4' rotary mower for my 755. These internet resources have been superb for checking the occasional BS I get when asking someone who is trying to sell me something.

I have a 5' blade for my 4100 and the tractor handles it just fine. JD doesn't list a JD blade as being compatable with the 4100, since they only make 7'and larger blades. ....
