I am considering the move up to a TC35D or TC40D tractor and have some questions about the 84 inch rear discharge belly mower that is designed for these tractors: (1) Are there any brochures of details about these belly mowers--cannot find any at the NH Web site or dealers and my local dealers don't stock them; (2) Since there is no hydraulic cylinder to lift this mower deck, is there a way to pin it up should the need arise to use the 3 point for other work? (3) When the deck is raised as high as it can, how many inches off the ground is the bottom of the deck? (4) How long does it take to mount up the mower deck if it were sitting beside the tractor at the start? (5) How long does it take to unmount the mower deck and place it beside the tractor?(6) How good a job does it do in wet grass as well as tall dry grass? (7) is it possible to use the 16LA FEL and bucket to raise the tractor front and deck high enough to easily crawl underneath the deck to remove the blades for sharpening or replacement, (8) Is the PTO switchable from using only the center PTO OR the rear PTO so they both are not running at the same time? (9) Is it really worth $4000??? Any answers to these questions would be greatly appreciated--TIA Mike S.

Sorry--two more questions--(10) how good a job does this large belly mower do when mowing uneven ground, pond berms, waterways, gently-sloped ditches, etc.??; and (11) due to its weight, I am concerned as to how deep into the ground do the four wheels sink into ground--do the wheels leave furrows in moderately soft or wet ground? ....

In my 20 years in the equipment business, and havig 10 acres of grass, I would not choose to mow my lawn w/ something that large. The 7' mid mower would probably be great on a golf course, park or field. but not much in the manueverability department on smaller lawns. Up where I am, the heavy soil doesn't dry well until late May and a tractor that size would destroy my yard.
I bet you could mow faster w a 5 or 6' mower and be more impressed with the results. ....

In addition, The resalability of the unit on the used market is VERY limited.
and the storage room it takes up as well as the ability to transport it and the lack of ground clearance your tractor will have is an issue. ....

Jim--thanks for your advice. Your reasoning is exactly why I currently use a 60 inch belly mower, but have become disenchanted with my JD4400 with its engineering and quality control issues (even though they have been corrected) and the only other tractor out there that really catches my eye is the Boomer TC35 or 40D and I do have deep reservations about its size and the size of its only belly mower. here's a experience i had.first consider how much wider the mower is than the tractor.i bought a 1550 kubota with a 60 inch deck and more times then i care to remember it would get caught on the least little hump and the tractor would go high center and i would be stuck.i learned a lesson about mid mount decks that are alot wider then the tractor.when i traded it for the 1530 i've got now they offered a 72 inch deck for it,but i went with the 60 instead and have been very satisfied.if i need a bigger mower,i have a 72 inch 914b finish mower for the 3 point.i realize that tractor can handle that big of deck,but consider how much easier the one that that sets closer to the sides of the tractor will be to maneuver.good luck ....

To echo the others. That is an awfully big more. I have a 72" on a 4300 and am not particularly fussy about the areas that I cut. Unless you live in Iowa or Illinois [flatlander country] you are going to dig and chop and even hang up. On the plus side, it does work towards leveling your yard. I chose the 72" so I could cut trails in one pass. It leaves long grass in dips and shave the bumps.
As far as wet and tall grass - I can cut wet fairly well although I usually avoid it. Tall grass may take a couple of passes with a wait in between to let the gras get upright again. A bushhog works better for the tall and rough stuff. ....

Regarding the PTO: The midmount and rear PTOs are separately controlled. Don't have a belly mower for my TC40D but my dealer told me that they always hook to the midmount PTO. NH belly mowers are not known for being the easiest to remove and put back on, but then it seems that most belly mowers are a pain to remove and put back on...
