I have a 410 loader on a John Deere 4100 tractor. Occasionally it will not lift. It stops at various heights. If I lower it, then try to lift it, sometimes it will go up sometimes it will not. The bucket tilt and the ballast box work fine. It is only raising the loader that does not work at times. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

The issue you're experiencing with your John Deere 410 loader could be caused by several factors. Here are some potential causes and troubleshooting steps:
Hydraulic System Check: The first thing to check is the hydraulic fluid level and condition. Ensure that the hydraulic fluid is at the proper level and that it is clean and free of contaminants. Dirty or low hydraulic fluid can cause issues with hydraulic system performance.
Hydraulic Hoses and Connections: Inspect the hydraulic hoses and connections for any signs of leaks, damage, or blockages. A leak in the hydraulic system can result in loss of pressure, causing the loader to malfunction. Tighten or replace any damaged hoses or fittings as needed.
Hydraulic Pump: Check the hydraulic pump for proper operation. If the pump is failing or not delivering enough pressure, it can cause intermittent lifting issues with the loader. A qualified technician can perform tests to determine if the pump is functioning correctly.
Loader Control Valve: Inspect the loader control valve for any signs of damage or wear. The control valve regulates the flow of hydraulic fluid to the loader cylinders, and a malfunctioning valve can cause issues with loader operation. Cleaning or replacing the control valve may be necessary if it is damaged or clogged.
Loader Cylinder Seals: Check the seals on the loader cylinders for signs of damage or wear. Worn or damaged seals can result in hydraulic fluid leakage, reducing the lifting capacity of the loader. Replace any worn or damaged seals to restore proper operation.
Electrical Connections: Ensure that all electrical connections related to the loader controls are secure and free of corrosion. Loose or corroded connections can cause intermittent electrical issues that affect loader operation.
Loader Calibration: Some loaders have electronic controls or sensors that may require calibration. Refer to the owner's manual or contact a dealer for information on how to calibrate the loader controls if necessary. ....

If everything else works as it should, (steering, three point, bucket cylinders, etc) you can pretty much rule out the hydraulic fluid and filters as a problem. Focus on the lift/lower spool of the control valve. Particularly so if it's one of those junky cable controlled versions. Even if it's a simple manually operated single lever style, peel the boot back and observe the ball joints and knuckles to make sure the spool is travelling when you move the lever. ....
