Greetings ! I bought a B21 at auction that was a rental machine so has seen plenty of use. I replaced all the fluids and filters when I got it, and it runs and operates ok. My issue is a noise from the hydraulic system, similar to what a power steering might make when low on oil.. fluids are all up, and only issue is pressure leaks down after shutdown that I see..
Anyone have any ideas ?

Does it do it at all throttle speeds? Did it do it before the fluid changes? ....

Yes makes noise at any speed. And I didn’t notice the noise before, or right after changing fluids, but leaking it is, so noise likely low fluid. I did find the leak after parking in the garage, and found its dripping down on the oil tank, so tore it down and no obvious problem stands out after pulling the oil tank out of the way. I am replacing all the o-ring seals and hoping that is it—as I don’t want to split the rear drive and trans away. Hoping I get lucky 🍀? ....

Thought I would catch up. I replaced seals on the oil tank and it is back together, keeping an eye out but see no leaks, though hydraulics are leaking down when sitting, but the main thing is it still makes noise (and does seem to get worse on steering tight). I am shutting this stream down and hoping for the best as this B21 will tell me any problems soon enough (too soon, by me) and i will wince every noise it makes!

Anyone out there have a 4 foot brush cutter for sale near MIssouri? Happy furrows to you!

I have a B2710, there is a whine to the hyds I think almost all the time you are moving coming from the hydrostat transmission. Your noise might be normal. Know anyone who has a similar tractor? Get with them to either listen to yours or you listen to theirs to judge the noise. It might have been there the whole time and as you are getting use to the tractor you are noticing more and more of how the tractor operates. ....

I believe KThompson is correct. Both of my JD tractors have hydro-pump/trans whine. The 20+ year old JD4100 was not very noisey, but it certainly wasn't quiet. 2 years ago I bought a new 2032R with hydrostatic trans, and the whine is much louder. Hi range is less so than Low range, and also speed/engine rpm.

They're build to work, but unlike a pickup truck, they're not built to be quiet. I think your tractor is fine. ....
