I am considering buying a new John Deere 2032R. I am concerned that instead of using glow plugs this model uses an air intake heater. Is this totally new and maybe problematic or is it the new best idea that makes this model compelling?

Don't worry about it. I have a 3720 with the heating chamber and never had a problem in 5 years.
I did have it in Wisconsin for 4 of those years. Stored in unheated pole shed but when it got really cold I would plug the crankcase heater in for easier starting. ....
