My Kubota 60" mower deck started making a grinding/vibrating noise when deck is on the ground. It quits when I raise the deck with the mower still running. I'd think if it was a spindle or pulley it would do it all the time?? Everything seems to turn freely by hand. Blades aren't touching. I had the deck off for the winter, sharpened the blades and attached to tractor. Was fine last year. Seems to get worse when I change ground speed or deck runs over a low spot in yard. It has me baffled! Any ideas? Thanks alot.

If there is a pto shaft connecting it I would check the universal joints on it. If belt would look at the puller/spindle it connects to. My guess is lowered the angle is putting little more load on the power supply allowing you to hear it where as level the stress is less. ....

It has a shaft from tractor to gear box on the deck. Then a belt drives the blades. Thanx for the info. I'll do some checking. ....

Believe you will find the pto shaft has at least one bad universal joint. You should be able to replace if bad and not the full shaft. ....

Howdy from the Smokies I have the RC44 dec k and just replaced my furtherest u joint out from the engine on the rear part of the drive. They are really small for the tractor but seem to last me around 800hrs. Make sure when you order that you get the correct one. On the 44 deck they changed the u joint design after sn 14860. The older u joints like mine are the old ring keeper setup, and the groove in the yoke is about .250 different from the c clip setup on the 14861 and up. If you haven't gone to Messicks.com and down loaded all the pdf files for your tractor and deck it's a great set of tools. Just watch out. Shipping for the single 3 oz ujoint is $14.95. find a local Kubota Dealer and save shipping. Rick in NC ....
