Need direction on JD4010 1960 model. Fuel gauge not working & would like to fix. Don't know where to start.

Is the tractor gas or diesel? If diesel, is it still 24 volt system or is it converted to 12 volt negative ground. If gas, is it still 12 volt positive ground or has it been converted to negative ground? From factory, both models (gas and diesel)had fuel gauges that operated on 12 volt positive ground. Both had generator charging systems. When converting to alternator charging, It fouls up fuel gauge and sender. You would need to convert fuel gauge and sender to late model 4020(69-71) to operate properly. If you do have original systems, It can be a bad sender, gauge or both. Let me know what set up you have. ....
