I am in the market for a used compact tractor and the local dealer has 770 manufactured in 1991. It has less than 700 hrs on it. Included are a front end loader and a 60" mid mount mower. I have not yet seen the tractor and am told it is in excellent condition. What is a reasonable price range for this piece of equipment.

According to the 1998 edition of The Book (see below) a 1991 JD 770 2WD was worth $10,448 new and now worth $7770, $8310 and $9060 in Fair, Good and Premium condition. Add about $1500 for the loader and maybe about $1000 for the belly mower and you'll be in the ballpark. 700 hours sounds low for a 9 year old machine, so it's probably in pretty good shape if it hasn't been abused or left out in the weather. This is not an exact science. ....

Thanks for the information. After seeing the tractor, it was as the dealer said and appears to be in excellent condition. We made a deal for $9100 and he is to deliver on monday next week. I've heard often that if something sounds to good to be true it usually is. I'll keep my fingers crossed and see what happens. Thanks again for the information and to all the others out there who are participating on this site. The information here is unbveatable!
