How many hours can a well treated 3 cyl water cooled compact tractor engine last? I was told at least 4000 hours, I have seen 6000 hours or more on bigger tractors, what have you witnessed? thanks.

There is no reason to expect these little motors to last at least as long as their big cousins if they are run & cared for properly. Relative to their horsepower, these little guys probably have larger crank & camshafts, and more bearing area. Most owners of compacts either get tired of looking at them, or beat them to death thru misuse & neglect before we can find out. ....

Can't say about smaller engines, but I have run larger tractors with 9500+ hours personally and know a 12000 hr John Deere down the street. ....
