I have a carport attachment on the side of my barn with a gravel floor. I want to concrete the floor, but first need to excavate about 5" of gravel and soil. My JD4100 with rear blade will do the job, but will not fit under the roof with the ROPS. Has anyone temporarily removed the ROPS on a 4100? Can it be done without a major effort? Looks like lights and wiring will need to be disconnected.

Jim, I don't understand why you need to remove the rops to do this work. If you start from out side (obviously) then the rops is still outside while the blade is inside. By the time the rops gets to the roof you should be working in a hole with more than enough clearance to the roof. Am I missing something here? ....

Jim, if I were you I would try to do what Murf suggested and "dig" your way under the carport. Much easier than trying to remove and replace a ROPS so you can drive right under it to start with. I have a JD 750 that I bought used. The owner had removed the ROPS from it. I ordered one from a JD dealer and installed it myself. It was a real pain getting it on, had to hang it from a limb and work it in place, and bolt up which took most of an afternoon. Yours maybe easier to remove/replace if you find that you have to, but try the other approach first.

Good idea Murf. I'm actually real close and only need a couple of inches. I also thought about that too, but just posted to see if anyone had any other ideas. Sounds like ROPS removal is a hassle if not necessary. ....
