My next door neighbor has a 301A. He puts the FNR (Foward, nutural, reverse) selector switch in foward, works for a while and it will not work in reverse. Later when he gets it in reverse and works awhile then he wont have foward. Now it is reverse only. Linkage is working and shifting as normal. Fluids are good.

It sounds like you have an internal problem. Either the valve is not shifting internally for some reason, or you have a problem in the forward and reverse clutch packs. Could be worn sealing rings or clutches themselves could be warped or worn out. The only way to know for sure is to hook up some gauges and check pressures in forward and reverse clutches. ....

Just so you will know. He followed the linkage to the hyd control box. When he took the cover off the box a pin had worked loose. He reconnected the lever to the pin and all was fine. The problem was in the control box out of sight.
