In the past months since I began spending time on this board, I've noticed quite a few comments from folks wishing that tractor manufacturers would pay more attention to forums like this one. I agree but must admit that I thought it was doubtful as well. Until today..... On Jan. 27., using only my own name, I submitted photos of a JD 4100 with modifications for specialty row crop use. The CTB Webmaster graciously put them up on the CTB Home Page for all to see! Today, Feb. 07, the dealership for whom I work received an email from our Branch Manager regarding my photos of the 4100 on this web site that had been noticed by the folks at John Deere, Agusta, who had in turn contacted him. As I began to read the copy that my boss gave me I started to get that "Oh boy, I'm in big trouble" feeling. But it turns out I'm not in trouble. The factory wanted more information about specialty applications for compact tractors and want to make sure that they are meeting the needs of different markets. So, everyone wave and say Hi! You never know who may be watching. Don.

Don, you're 100% right, in this day and age NO COMPANY is too large or small to ignore it's customers/end users. As a professional landscaper I can state that every company I have had the pleasure of doing business with listened when I told them I had a problem, and did something about it, eventually. Do not underestimate the power a forum like this has. A friend of mine who is a Gov. employee tells me that they consider every 1 letter or phone call to represent 5 to 10 THOUSAND people.... And do not think that the factories are not 'listening ' either, I was at the Kubota head office recently talking to a tech. person, when I arrive he was online at this site!! He called it preventative medicine!! Anything interesting was forwarded to Japan. Bottom line, if you have a problem, speak up.... ....

I am not totally in agreement. I see "meeting the needs of different markets" and meeting the needs of the individual customer as two totally different things. I have been very dissatisfied with my treatment by the local dealer and very satisfied by the fundemental products offered by the manufacurer. Perhaps it is time to revisit the customer service issue before it overrides the speciality offering issue. If the customer base is unhappy with the overall experience than it does not matter what you offer as a product, it will not be purchased. I don't claim to know anything about marketing but I do know people. The entertainment value of grossly overpriced parts and attachments has long since departed for this customer. JD quailty customer care no longer exists in for me and blue has always been my favorite color. ....

About a year ago I lambasted Massey Ferguson and Millat Tractors Ltd. for several shortcoming in MF 240 in CTB as well as in 2 other tractor discussion fora but I never got any inkling that either of these companies listened. New Massey Ferguson MF 240's are still being made with defective brakes and rock hard seats that are no pleausre to sit on as well as some other omisions or commisions.

Re Don in oregon and his experience of John Deere ,the company, showing interest in his modified compact for the onion fields.The majority of ideas for farm machinary come out some guys workshop.The 'Research & Development' department is buffing up somebody elses concept.The real originality comes from some million guys out there rolling some idea around thier head instead of counting sheep. ....
