I heard a rumor that Yanmar is Divorcing themselves from making Tractor engines for John Deere or vice-versa. Has anybody heard any more?

As Yanmar makes more than just the engine this maybe a difficult task. It is a bit like divorce where the judge grants the wife everything and the man gets the right to pay alimony.
Dispite this fact there are other small engines available now. Cat is building a small diesel which is in the Challengers and a couple Cub Cadets. Perkins has also introduced a new small engine for the compacts.
Deere also has a relationship with a Korean manufacturer that produces smaller sub compacts complete with engines. ....

From what I understand, Deere owns an portoin of Yannmar, and it is hard to get away from them all at once. However, with new models like the 3203 coming from Augusta Ga, and only the 90 series coming from Japan the change might be happening soon. The JD 4*** series although assembled in Georgia uses Yanmar engines. They may also make some of the transmissions etc. I don't see much difference in the engineering between the 955 which was assembled in Japan and the newer tractors. JD-Yanmar engineering was started in 1977 so the relationship has been around a while.
I am not sure how different the new tractors are from the standard Yanmar fare.

The current JD 4020 Series uses the John Deere 4024T, 4 cylinder 2.4L turbocharged motor. Yanmar engines couldn't give them the power they needed. They are built in Mexico along with most of the larger engines. I think it is Kanzaki that builds the hydros. Most of the parts come from all over the world though, axles from Hungry, ect. The 4010 series used only Yanmars. ....
