HELLO to all my tractor buddies,

Went to get the local Sunday paper this morning and guess what was on the front page? 3 whining families that had members get killed having flipped their 1940s and and 1950s tractor over pulling out stumps. They whined, moaned and growned loud enough that a "DO-GOODER" Democrat Michigan legislator has introduced legislation that would make it against the law to operate ANY tractor not equipped with a Roll bar. Now we might get the tractor police out on the prowl looking for those "evil" Ford 8n,9n, and Jubliees without Roll bars to write heafty fines and tickets because IDIOTS killed themselves doing something real stupid. What do you guys think about our liberal Democrats who are hard at work protecting the stupid?

Go to ahttp://www.mlive.com/local/index.ssfnd and look up The Flint Journal's Sunday's edition 3-20-2005 and read all about how stupid people live in Michigan.

Won't happen. You can not go into the past and change laws. And the government can not inter fear with the lively hood of individuals. There fore that jack ass can try all hew wants but basically they revamped the laws years ago to mandate rops so the can not try to make you get a roll bar installed on prelaw tractors. That is like them trying to say your '70 cuda has to pass current emissions and crash standards or you can not drive it. Ain't gonna happen. ....

ROPS , seatbelts and lots of other stuff are in place because of stupid people doing stupid things. I just watched America's Funniest Videos with the kids and if I did 1/2 the stuff these dopes did the last thing I would do is have it on ABC primetime sunday night.

It's a shame people get killed but the old saying is true, "Guns aren't dangerous, stupid people with guns are dangerous" ....

I doubt they would be able to get such a piece of legislation passed, aside from the owners protests they would have the manufacturers lined up against them also. What company would want it's 50+ year old products labelled 'dangerous' in these days of lawsuits over things like hot coffee?

What they likely can do however, is make changes to something like the OHSA regulations to make the use of it illegal by anyone being paid to ride it.

They did the same sort of thing up here a few years ago. Anything that was equipped with ROPS from the factory had to have it in place in order to keep the machine in service.

It cost a lot of stupid landscapers a pile of money. There were many, many front mount commercial mowers like Kubota & JD F-series mowers that the ROPS had been taken off because they were a problem working around trees. Suddenly they were unusable in a commercial operation.

The only hope that lawmaker has is if he can get them to pass legislation requiring an operator to prove their competancy before they can run the machine. This is already widely the case with things like automobiles, boats, snowmobiles, guns and aircraft.

Best of luck. ....
