After mowing my yard today, I went to start the tractor to attach the loader. The tractor just made a clicking sound from under the console. I hooked up my charger and set it to 250 amps. The starter just clicked.
I now have the starter off the tractor, and with + of the charger on the terminal of the starter going from the solenoid to the starter motor and the - of the charger going to the frame of the starter, the gear spins but does not come out. I think I have a bad bendix, which surprises me due to only 150 hours on the tractor. I will take the starter to a repair shop to have it checked and/or repaired.
Am I missing something or does this sound like the problem?
Mike

Not familiar with that starter but often there is a small wire that actuates the bendix. ....

Be sure to check that the connection for the transmission safety lockout has not come loose. This is the connector that keeps your tractor from starting if it's in gear. I've had mine come loose twice on my 4100....the first time requireing a service call (now I know where to look!). Anyhow, check under the seat on the left side of the tractor. There is a small post that comes off the tranny as I recall that a small electrical plug goes on. Worth a look. ....
