While operating my tractor in 4 wheel drive today, something in the front end popped! Not sure waht it was but the 4x4 doesn't work now. Can anyone help with this before I start to tear into it?

There don't seem to be any other Shibaura owners who can help, so get together with the other owner posting here with a similar problem. That mechanism is likely pretty standard, so any tractor technician might be able to fix it. Or the two of you can search for a service manual, and if none exists get one from Japan and have the front-drive section translated.

While I've never seen one (even in Tokyo-Shibaura) it's often the shift linkage at fault, usually a broken pin or a worn fork, usually a simple fix. ....

The most common fwd failure for this model is stripped ring/pinion gears. ....
