The power steering pump on my 240 Massey-Ferguson leaks severely. To fix the leak, I must replace the outer seal on the pump (O-ring). The problem I foresee is removing the pump housing. Several small bolts (around the circumference of the pump) hold the pump housing and one bolt is located next to the engine block. It is the bolt next to the engine I see as the problem. Has anyone replaced the o-ring for the power steer pump? If so, how was your approach? Can the pump be removed without first removing the pump housing? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately Billy, this is one example of the only 'easy way' to do it, is to have some else do it.... They can be a real pain in the neck, literally. Get anything else that may be in the way, alternator, etc., off or out of the way, then undo the hardest to get to bolt first, this way if it is impossible you will know first, not after everything else is undone. Sometimes a couple of extensions and a 'flexible' adapter on a ratchet will reach in past the clutter. However hard it is to remove, it must come out, the chances of being able to replace the seal without damaging the new one, or yourself, are extremely remote, they are very delicate things and are very simple to do on a bench, but upside-down backwards with one hand while still in the machine, FORGET IT. I'm sure you have enough frustrating things in your life, don't add to the list.... Best of luck. ....
