Has anyone else encountered problems with soft steel on the Kubota loader buckets (LA352)? I hooked a chain on the upper rim of the bucket to pull something a few feet and noticed that the the bucket bent where the chain had been hooked. I was able to bend it back with a normal hammer, so no harm done, but it seems like the steel shouldn't bend quite that easily. Any thoughts? What happens when chain hooks are welded to the bucket? Will they cause the same problem? I love the tractor (7610) but am wondering about the loader quality.

Most standard buckets will do what you had happen. Heavy duty buckets will have more support across the top which does make it easy to weld hooks on. The right size pipe would fit under your level indicator and go across the top of your bucket and add the strength that you need to weld hooks on. ....

Pipe as Art mentioned or a length of 3 or 4 inch channel iron or square tube stock welded in place will tremendously add the the strength of the bucket in that area. ....

I had a standard bucket on my old deere 790 & I had a hook welded to it. Use to carry using a chain all kinds of things & it was bent almost from new. I straightened out once then siad the heck with it & left it bent. It didnt bend anymore then that though & I carried things like a 800 lb salt/ sand spreader 8 footer. I made sure when i bought my new Kubota I got the HD ( heavy duty) bucket. Major difference in strength! ....

Most buckets are not designed to take the load of a chain on the lip. When I weld hooks to a bucket I reinforce the bucket with a triangular piece welded in directly under the hooks in the inside of the bucket. That spreads the load out evenly. ....

FWIW..From the bucket, go up the frame. First "hole" insert metal pipe long enuf to extend out other side. Loop chain around pipe, around front of bucket and around other side. Attach another chain to this out front. ....

Thanks for all of the useful input. I will get some steel and reinforce it. Sounds normal, so I'll just strengthen the lip and watch it. ....
