I got my new BX23 six days ago. Before delivery, the dealer had just finished prepping it including checking fluids. Today I noiced the trans fluid looked to be extremely low, hardly registering on the dipstick.
This fluid shouldn't have vanished in 6 day's time, should it? I don't see any obvious signs of leaks.
Perhaps I'm not checking it right? Should the tractor be cold or hot, or doesn't it matter? Would position of the attachments or BH matter? The manual seems pretty vague.)
Sorry for asking what may be stupid questions. This is my first tractor. Thanks for your thoughts on this!

Not a stupid question at all. The HST dipstick in the BX series is VERY "sensitive". If the tractor is not perfectly level it will show way off. My dealer indicated that as little as one cup of HST fluid can make the dipstick not read at all. ....

Yep, this is a touchy one. The position of the three point or the FEL when you check the fluid will make a difference. Retract all hydraulic cylinders, lower the three point and check it again. To check the fluid level, you need to pull the dipstick, wipe it, and then recheck the fluid level. Unless you have a leak in the system, you should get consistant readings if you make sure all of your hydraulics are in the same position every time you check, and always dip twice. ....

Another thought: Have you used any new hyd equipment with it? New cylinders can take a lot of fluid to purge all of the air. Plus the dealer may not have completely purged the system as you would do during operation.
Example of cylinders. I cycled the big cylinder I got out of the scrape dumpster to get the stroke etc. It took over 4 gallons of fluid to purge and the fluid is still in it. I have pipe plugs in it to save fluid but not sure if I'll use the cylinder, 2 big 2 slow & 18" stroke. Add 4 back into tractor. ....

My log splitter sucked nearly a gallon out of my 4115.
The whole range on the dipstick- from high to low- probably represents about a quart out of a 4 gallon sump. ....

Happy ending to this story: everyone who replied was right -- the bx23 holds a huge quantity of fluid but has an oversensitive dipstick. All it took was half a quart, and it was fine!
Even better was how nicely the dealer handled it. I bought 2 quarts from their parts window. On the way out my salesman saw me and asked how the tractor was doing. I told him the problem, and he seemed genuinely concerned. Without hesitation, he also got my check out of the parts window register and tore it up. He also stopped the general manager and let him know the problem. Wow! My dealer is great after the sale, too.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. Make sure you double dip the dip stick before each use. That hydraulic fluid is as important to your tractor as oil is to the engine, and there are more ways to loose it! ....
