Hi:
Have a BX-23 with the back hoe off for winter with a 5' blade on 3pt for snow removal. Due to health/age want to add a valve and cly/hoses to blade to control left/right angle off of the BH hose conections. Manual/dealer so far not been much help other than power beyond and 3rd line return to tank(what is that?) Open/closed valve (open I think as bh hoses hooked together when not in use per manual any help or a specific valve/source to get me started
would be fantastic We have a northeran tool/hyd in town not much else farm wise
Thanx Pat R

It sounds like you need 4-way valve (about $80-120) which would connect to where the backhoe connects. I want to say you need an open center type versus a closed. With an open center valve it means hydraulic fluid under full pressure flows through it---but when you need to control something the valve directs some or all of the flow to where you want. A closed center means the pump is making pressurer and sends it to your valve but there is no flow until you direct the valve. I have a similar system on mine that uses two 4-way valves to control 3 separate hydraulic circuits. Mine is plumbed to the rear aux. ports which are controlled by the aux. valve. This was cheaper to do that way instead of installing a bank of valves. Do your research to find out if you need an open center system or closed. ....

Rankin: So that means if someone installs a closed center valve they will blow the pump, right? ....

I think that is right.
I do know it makes a terrible noise if you forget to couple the hoses together after removing the backhoe. ....

When you say 4 way are you meaning a simple 1 spool with in/out ports (power) and the 2 work ports to cly? so far What I have figured out corresponses to what has been said and what little I know about Hyd other than just move da handle to make go up/down!!

Yes one valve that has 4 ports. That squealing noise is likely fromthe relief valve having fluid passing through it. Do that long enough and the oil will become aerated and the pump will cavitate and wear out soon after that. ....
