I have a new JD 4710 with electronic 4 wheel drive. My question is when I use the 4 wheel drive it seems to build up torque in the drive train and when I disconnect it by flipping the switch there is a loud clunk, is this normal? I have had the 4700 with the manual 4 wheel drive and didn't recall hearing this.

In my 4410 operator's manual on pg. 33 there is a note which states the following:

NOTE: On eHydro and ePowerReverser models, a "pop" sound may be heard when MFWD is engaged. This is normal for MFWD operation.

On pg. 34 another note that states:

NOTE: It may be necessary to reduce engine load to disengage front wheel drive.

Whenever I shift into or out of MFWD I bring the tractor to a stop with wheels straight and engine to an idle. This is not required but it does seem to reduce the engagement and disengagement roughness to a minimum. I usually watch the front tires for a slight forward jump when engaging and disengageing.

Sounds to me like your system is operating as advertised and you will adjust to the traits and peculiararities of your new and by the way VERY nice tractor! ;o)

Just as a precaution, I would check the front axle oil level to to be sure it has the proper fill of oil. This should already have been taken care of by the dealer but sometimes folks make mistakes. ....
