Does anyone have any special suggestions as to the leveling of a belly mower on a JD4400 tractor? JD belly mower decks are designed to float and not drag on the ground riding on wheels. Following the directions in the manual eventually gets the job done, but perhaps some of the users that participate in this forum might have some shortcuts OR an easier method. Mike S.

Following the directions in the manual has always worked for me and I don't know of any shortcuts. Once the deck is level it is a done deal and should not need anymore attention. ....

MikeS,When you find out how to adjust your deck, take the tractor on a nice flat surface and start measuring the distance between the bottom edge of your deck and the floor.Idealy you want the front edge of the deck about 1/4"-3/8" higher than the rear side of the deck. This allows for more volume of grass to enter the deck and keeps the deck from "striping".If your set your deck to perfectly level,on good grass, you can see the offset in the blade heighth.By offsetting the deck a little,it will do a much better job of mowing.I have a Kubota, the front linkage on the deck is where you make that adjustment, don't know about Deere,I would think it would be similar. ....
