I am looking at the King Kutter scraper blades from TSC for my B7800. The only thing I would use it for would be snow removal. I was thinking about 72" or 84". I have my box scraper for all other tasks. I don't want to go too big, but I want to go as big as I can. Any suggestions?

My opinion would be to go with the 84" blade. You can always take less of a bite and the 84" blade is a real convenient width to make a single pass on the drive way. I use an 84" land scaping rake to maintain my drive way and have very good results. I would think similar principles would apply to the snow removal as well. Another point is that if the 84" blade is too much; you can angle it off to take less of a bite too. ....

There issues with a long blade and a light tractor I think. I know that I don't have enough steering in heavy snow to make turns even with my 5' blower unless I slow down and I imagine a long blade would need more steering. Sometimes I leave a load of snow in the loader so I can get off the highway faster. An angled blade would increase the steering needed to make a turn into the blade quite a bit. A very long angled rear blade also might tend to push the rear to the side as front blades will do, but rear ballast likely would manage the problem.
However, a blade long enough to do drives in one pass would sure be a time saver and also sure would be handy if ditching work came up. No recommendations here--just issues. Got to stop; I'm starting to sound like a policy advisor. ....

Another of my concerns was getting it too wide past the tractor and swinging the blade around and catching something with it. Then again it would be nice to have that longer blade to keep the drainage ditches cleaned out. As far as too much snow, if it gets that deep, I can always use the FEL to skim it off and then go back over it with the blade. I clean part of the road in front of my house to prevent the state road plow driver from filling in my driveway and I hate putting the FEL on the asphalt as I'm sure it is wearing it faster. Then the gravel drive is becoming a mess as I try to cut it close. I had used a rear blade in the opposite direction with my old tractor and it worked pretty good. Now I'm beginning to sound like Tom!!! Just kidding!!! I guess I have been working in Washington DC too long!!!! ....

I have a 72" wide blade and am happy with it. If the snow gets deep or packed from drifting that is all the tractor can handle. I have 27HP, turf tires and 2600 lb. base tractor weight. I do four passes. Up and down on both sides of the crown and a second partial pass each way getting the snow further away to allow for drifting. If I need to push more, the FEL is needed anyway.
One pass down the center is not wide enough with my drive. The point about the extra width and swing clearance is valid. It comes around fast if you are maneuvering around objects especially in sleet, snow & rain. I know, kissed the left rear of my Mountaineer one day-only cost $400.00 to fix. ....

I see you say you have a mountaineer. I have a 96 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition with V-8 and AWD. Does yours have the climate control (you set the temp you want the car to maintain inside and it turns the heat on and off to maintain)? Anyway mine went out and when I took it to the shop the guy said Ford was having a lot of problems with this climate control and said the whole heater box would need to be replaced at a cost of $700 due to the amount of labor involved to remove it. I did some checking and indeed there are some issues and what this guy said is legit. I just thought I would give you a heads up on this. Mine gave some brief notice before going out completely but I didn't really pay any attention until it went out completely. It's tough when the week your 4X4 is in the shop and you get 24 inches of snow plus ice to boot. But not having the 4X4 caused me to get better plowing snow with the FEL on the tractor since the car needs better plowing to get out. ....
