I tried to tiller under my winter rye crop. My tiller is now clogged with a bunch of rye wrapped around it. Anybody know an easy way to clean it?
Thanks,
David

No easy way to do it other than hard work. Get yourself some sort of a instrument resembling an ice spud and start chopping. Spraying with a pressure washer takes the dirt out so you can get to the vegetation matter making it somewhat easier. Some times mowing your rye down with a bushhog makes the tilling easier but vegetation wrapped around the tines just goes with job. ....

We use a cotton hook.
Like a giant meat hook with a wooden "T" handle on it.
We have a home made machete thing.
16"x 1/4" with wooden handle.
Short and heavy chopper.
For the big outer stuff only. ....

I had a bunch of mud and hay bail twine wrapped around mine. A good cutter blade (box cutter or heavy duty knife) and the pressure washer solved my problem. Used a "Leather Man" set of stainless pliers to pull the cuttings off as I loosened them up. Spray your tines and exposed metal with linseed oil or some kind of protectant to keep them from rusting after you get them all cleaned up. ....
