I have 2 cubs now.1967/ 104 and 1974 / 129 I also have have a spare 10Hp engine out of a 106. All of these engines run with the engine bolted direct to the frame.
I found a 1976..1450 and gave to my son who has rebuilt engines and cubs for me.His 14Hp is mounted with rubber mounts.
Now for my question that I need feed back on is..
I was lucky to run across a guy who had a garage full of cubs. Under the bench he had a kohler 16Hp engine. The short of it is I was able to talk him out of it for $150.00. He had bought it from another person. It has no nameplate so I don't know what year it is or if it is from a deere or a cub. It has a starter and a stator. No starter/generator as my others.
I installed it on my wood splitter and it seems to have extra virbration. It starts great and runs great. I am wondering if this engine was made to run on rubber mounts like my sons 14HP. Looking for thoughts on this. Would pieces of rubber 1/4" thick under the engine do anything?

Some urethane body mounts might be a bit more rigid and not let it vibrate as much as rubber. The rubber would work too. Even some cut up sections of tires. ....

One of the problems they were having with that design engine was the balance. They did try several ways to stop it in different versions but I do believe it's the size of the rotating mass there. You can try as Chief suggested to mount in rubber but don't plan on it going away. The engine you have at 16 horsepower when used by cadet still had the starter generator bolted to it. ....

All of the single lungers shake at lower rpm's but smooth out with increased rpm. At a really slow idle it sounds like an old John Deere (putt-putt). I have a 1650 (16HP-single cylinder). You should use rubber engine mounts. Go to your nearest Cadet dealer. They stopped selling them for a while but have them available again. I also have (2) 782's (17 HP- twin cylinder), a 1862 (18HP- twin cylinder) and a 1864 (newer version of 1862). I mow allot of lawn at different property sites. ....

Art this statement is not true. All quiet line (QT)cubs had engines with starters. My son has a 1450 cub and it has a starter. My manual also states a 1650 (16HP ) has a starter.
They came out in the mid 70's till 1980 before MTD took over. ....
