I just got a older 1641 and I am looking for instructions on checking out the voltage regulator. Runs fine but doesn't charge. Would likee to check itt out before buying a voltage regulator. Thanks

If you can buy a service manual (or borrow a dealer's) that should specify how to check the reg. However, newer ones are solid-state and long-lived so if yours is not, it's likely past its design life. But first check all the wiring and connectors to and from the reg, alternator, and battery.

Until you get it sorted out, you likely know you can use it without charging. After it starts, turn the key off. You won't have horn, lights, or instruments, but you won't drain the battery either. Just put a charger on after a bunch of starts. ....
