I think someone has been watching a few too many TV ads.
Yesterday I watched as somebody was driving a Gator type machine across the river. The rivers are low becaue of the drought, but a couple times on his/her way across the water was at the top of the tires. There didn't appear to be any crisis or emergency, I think they were just on a joy ride. They did make it across, but I didn't stick around to see of they made it back. There is no where to get out from the side they were on, so somehow the "Gator", if it was a Gator had to come back.
I don't think they were meant to cross water that deep.
Frank.

Remember it is deer wearing a gator label, not a real southern river or swamp gator. I agree JD Gator is not a live in the water creature. ....

I guess it will generate work for the JD repair person, so not all is lost.

Think I am correct the air intake is in the frame on the right side. It is below the bed if memory is correct which on our gator with the oversize tires would mean if in water over the tires you probably are sucking water in the air intake or just missing doing so.

I'm not 100% sure it was a Deere brand Gator. It looked green and was far enough away that I knew it was a Gator type machine. So that's why I say it was a Gator "type" rig.
Yes, the air intake would be a bit too low on mine for tire topping water crossings.
There may be other brands that are more adapted to water crossings than a Gator.

Frank has been a while since I looked at those machines but when I did the ATV companies to me made a better machine than the Gator for such reasons. They were built to me more off road than the Gator. But ours was for my bride and she only wanted a certain shade of green. ....

Yes, I agree, the Gators were meant to be used to help around farms, construction sites, etc. for light hauling and human transport more so than a recreation machine like the four wheelers.
Being my legs haven't worked very well for a long time a Gator is much easier to get on/off than a four wheeler. And also like you my Mrs. wanted a Gator, not a look alike or a four wheeler, but a GATOR!!
