Hello all,
I have a 40 (long) x 24 (wide) building on a block foundation. The barn runs north and south. I would like to put an addition on. We plan to put on a 30 x 40 addition. The 30' will run north and south and the 40 east and west. If you can picture this then you realize two different peaks, two different directions.
I am asking any, some, all of you for your opinion on the following and I hope I can explain it so that you'll understand.
The new addition is for horses, we would like a gambrel style roof so we can have hay storage. Would it be possible to run the take the roof off of the existing barn and replace it like so: run the trusses for the new barn and part of the existing barn the same direction (the 40' on new barn and 30' of the existing 40'). Then with the remaining 10' of the existing barn just simply a sloped roof.
If this was possible I would be able to have a 64' x 30' and a 10' x 24' .
Does that make sense? is it possible?

I would first be sure how the building codes come into play for you. Either way would find a "trust" person who sells and designs them. Think that will save you a good bit of time and worry. KT ....
