I have a 254 IH (Mitsubishi) and am wondering about adding remote hydraulics for log splitter ect. what is open/closed center and where is the fittings orports on my tractor I bought the tractor used and this is a IH not Case/IH

open center: pump puts out a constant volume at a specific speed. Most older tractors & compacts have this type.If you use a closed valve with a open pump, back pressure will build up & will either blow lines or seals. closed center: volume output of pump varies according to demand. Most new tractors & JD farm tractors back to 1962 have this type .If you use an open center valve with a closed pump the oil will probably overheat. There may be 3 ways to put in a valve .1. Look under the seat at the hydraulic control valve for a plug with a letter p(pressure) or o(out) & tap into there with a return line to transmission case. 2. cut the pressure line & weld in fittings.3. There may be a manifold on tractor to bolt an outlet block for remote hydraulics. e-mail me if you have questions ....
