I am looking at a 2240 series. Never owned a tractor but I used JD when I was a kid. Can you guys give me some feedback about pro's and con's of this series. Will be used mainly for mowing and small soil turning jobs. Thanks Eric

The 2240 is an excellent tractor. It is considered a utility tractor and not a compact. It has 50 pto horsepower, collar shift or synchro tranny, and wet brakes. There were two versions of this tractor. Earlier ones were before 350,000 serial number. These I think were built from 1977 and 1980. Early and late versions were good, but the later ones had some improvements in hydraulics and power train. Some variations were available with a hi-lo shift, hydraulic reverser and independent pto as options. Let me know if you have any other specific questions. ....
