I am looking at buying a John Deere 855 with a front end loader and box scrape. The dealer was not sure of the year and without going out to the tractor, he thought is had about 1200 hours. I've seen a picture of it and it looks clean. He is asking $9,300 for it. Is that a fair price? Is there anything specific I should ask or look for? What years did JD make the 855s? Thanks, John

that is a very fair price.. I just got a trade in on mine.. they are selling them used for about $13k, for a machine from 1987..I just traded mine in and got $12,200 towards a new one.. that is far better than I thought I would get for it.. I bought the machine in 87' for $14,700.. WOW! Held it's original value pretty good if you want to ask me.. ....

That would be a nice price around here...Central US. But I do get nervous when adoesn't know some of the basic info on a machine. I'd be tempted to put some moneyon it to lock the deal down and make it conditional on a mechanical inspection. ....

John, I dont know much about the 855 but you could judge your price by calling a local dealer here in Michigan, Bader Brothers in Ithica (517)681-5771 I was there on 4/24/99 and they had 2 of them on the lot. One had 200 plus hours and the other had over 300 hours, these both had mower decks and turf tires. They were both 4WD, and were very clean. Try calling and checking the price on these and then compare. Hope this will help you. ....
