I'm looking into the JD 4100. Is the mid-mount mower compatable with the loader? Does the 4100 have the horsepower to run the 60 inch mid-mount mower in high moisture conditions? I am currently using the JD 455 with a 60 inch mower, how would they compare as far as mowing? Also, has anyone put a small backhoe on the 4100? Is there a backhoe available for light duty or residential use? Finally, how about hearing from anyone who has a Kubota 2400 with a backhoe, I have also considered this unit.

I have a 4100 with 60 inch deck and the 410 loader. Per JD specificaions I also have 3 rear wheel weights per rear wheel and a ballast box on the 3 point with 750 pounds of weight in it when the loader is used. The deck and loader can both be mounted at the same time and work quite well. I would recommend that you also get the kit to hold the deck in the fully raised position so that you can also use the 3 point independently with the deck attached. There is no backhoe for the 4100 available from JD. You might want to consider the Woods 6500 backhoe which can be mounted on the 3 point. I would only recommend this for light duty work. The 4100 easily handles the 60 inch deck. I operate it on hills cutting lush grass and the tractor has plenty of HP for this. However, I do not cut wet grass if I can help it. The 4100 outperforms the JD 430 with 60 inch deck I had previously. ....

Mike,I went through this same dilemma when I was looking for a tractor. I really wanted the 4100, It has a lot of great features, but I was going to need a loader and a backhoe. Since JD did not make a hoe for the unit I was going to buy an after market unit for the 3pt. Hitch. All three JD dealers that I was quoted prices from on the 4100, stated that if I put a hoe on the tractor, I would void the warranty, and most likely break the tractor in half. The problem with the 4100 as it was explained to me is that it has an aluminum Trans axle housing with spur gears for final drives located at the wheels. It is the lateral forces of the backhoe on the 3pt. Hitch as well as the stresses from digging that are transferred to the middle of the tractor that could cause damage to transmission case and the tractor frame. Since having a backhoe was a must for me, I purchased the Kubota with loader and 4672 backhoe. I’m very happy with the Kubota, but it would have been nice to own the 4100, since the dealer is less than 3 miles from my house. While doing this research on the 4100, I did have the opportunity to speak with the JD rep. for my area. He also mentioned that many people have complained about the lack of a hoe for the 4100. He stated that JD would not design a hoe for the machine unless they could make it strong enough to hold up to contractor usage. So for right now he did not see anything coming down the pike soon. However, he did state that Woods might come out with a sub frame unit for the 6500 that may work; however JD would probably not give its blessing on it. Once again it becomes a warranty issue if anything happens to the tractor. If you don’t need the backhoe, the 4100 with loader is a really nice machine and will probably do most everything you want.I hope this helps,Carl ....

Carl, I have a 675 4wd w/front end loader. I am currently building a cad digger back hoe that will mount on the three point. When I was last at the green dealer I was sniffing around a 4000 series tractor and observed the transaxle set up you described with the gears out at the wheels. My tractor is not set up like that. The hoe I am building will have limitations that I hope match the tractor. I hope I don't have the same set up as the 4000 series. I will be putting a magnet on the gear case ect... when I get home this evening. Great information. Thanks. ....

Mike, The 4100 tractor is great for mowing. I use mine for my buisness, one thing that is nice is the 4x4 for mowing up hills. I use to use a 455 , believe me the 4100 far out performes the 455. As for a bachoe , i was talking to my dealer just before hand about one ,i to want one for my tractor. He said that a company by the name of Great bend witch already makes bachoes for JD is making a line of aftermarket hoes. therefor making parts easier to get. Some people talk about a hoe being to mutch stress on the 4100, i hope this is not true, maybe that is why JD has not made one yet. ....

`I am a Kelley dealer. Kelley makes a hoe for the JD4100 that has a dig depth of 6'6". It requires aframe mount, bacause the frame is to light for a 3 point hoe. I wouldn'trisk mounting a hoe on the 3 point. For more info I may be contacted atsheaftractor@coiinc.com. Leonard ....
