Would like some opinions about blade types for finish mowers.I have heard about setups from different people in the business around here.I use the stock blades and a dealer told me other won't make that much difference. Some guys use other blades like gator blades, mulching blades, and high lift. One fellow even said he uses regular blades except he uses a high lift for the outer blade.I,m going to buy new sets of blades soon so any info would be of help. Thanks!

RegL, I know there are lots of other blades out there, but I use just the original equipment blades on the Bush Hog finish mower and am very happy with them. When I was mowing the yard with a Cub Cadet riding mower, I let a slick talking salesman sell me a set of Gator blades. Now maybe some of you have used and like them, but I considered them an expensive joke; not nearly as good as the original blades, which I went back to. ....

I am of the opposite mind on this. I use and really like the Gators. I started using them on my pushmowers only. I found that you could mow twice as much before the bag was full in grass only, they really shine when the leaves come off the trees. I would use a side chute to blow them in the middle the catch them, at least 4 times more in the bag. I could not get them for my 72 inch Deeres so I got the closest length (1/16" less than OEM) and drilled the center hole to match. I think that they do a better job of mulching the grass because I no longer have to disperse piles after the grass is long. Saves me time. Thats my 2 cents. ....

turfman, that sounds like the same sales pitch that got my money; just what the salesman told me. My brother-in-law and another neighbor also bought them. My brother-in-law says they're "all right; not bad" and the other neighbor feels the same as I do; I won't be back at that dealer for anything ever again. I figure he got me once, but never again. Maybe those blades work on some types of mower designs and not others. ....
