Would like to know if anyone has used a landscape rake to plow snow.I have a plow set up on the loader arms, and thought it would be handy to also have a back blade turned forward to bring snow away from garage doors, etc.out to where i can get it with the front plow. I have a fairley heavey ( Danuser ) rake and if that will work ok i wouldn't bother spending the money on a blade.Also thought maybe I could bolt sone kind of blade to teeth on rake.Any info would be appreaciated. OK, that didn't work.I'll try again.When yuo get Tripple brooks home page,click on tree digging system.It looks like it might work if not doing to much volume.Would be interested if anyone has tried it.Reg.

OK.Yes I do have insurance and I do use the guard where it looks dangerous not to or to keep grass off the side of the house ,etc.
I guess what I was wondering is,if it's a common practice to not use the guard in other areas or is it just here.Mowers seem to be unique in that use of safty features reduce the quality of job.Any manufactures want to coment?

Has any of you guys used a Gravely with 30" brush hog,and if so,how does the DR compare to it?I,ve been using Gravelys for years but the older I get,the more Difficult they get to operate.Reg.

I think i would check building codes befor installing a floor pit.I believe they have outlawed for safty reasons,gas fumes being heaver than air.Maybe it's ok if you install some kind of ventilation system.Reg

I also have the Allied 195 and so far have been satisfied with it.One feather i would like to have,that i've seen on other loaders,is when your at the end of the dump cycle you can slap the bucket to remove stuck materal.I was wondering if this could be added on an aftermarket basis?

Glen,I dont remember the model number,but last year i bought a bear cat 4 in. chipper.It was a manual feed and cost about 2800.It was ok for the price but manual feed is a pain.Either you have to push like heck to get the brush through or the blades grab it so fast that the tractor bogs down.I traded it after about two mounths for a Danuser 6" with mechanical feed.Cost about 4500.A lot less strain on me and the tractor.Good luck.

Thanks Murf,that formula sounds like it would look like what i have seen.I wonder if they also add grass seed,because it seems to grow back very rapidly.If it ever stops raining so i can get my lawns done and get back out on the course,i'l ask them.Thanks again.Reg.

This is a question for Murf or any of you golf course experts out there.I've noticed while playing golf lately,(i find the time once in a while)that on short holes where you get a lot of divots,they place pails filled with a mixture to fill in your divot.It appears to be mostley sand and i assume has seed mixed in.Since i occationaly take a divot with my mower,i thought it might be handy to have a container of this on the truck.Is this a prepared mix you can buy or do you just mix up your own.

Just a thought.All the skid shoes i have seen were small area wise.I wonder if someone was a good fabricator,they could make up a set that are shaped like a short ski,say about a foot long with the tip curled up.A ski like this would probably have to pivit.Has anyone tried this?

Bird,thanks for the info about setting up mower for field mowing,that you posted some time ago.Anyone i have ever talked to ,set the front lower than the rear of the mower.The owner's manual for the mower also recommended that.I suspect thats because,like you said,less horse power required and easier on the equipment.The fields i mow are fairley small and close to the custermer's houses,so i'm always trying to get the best job i can.I took your advise and set my mower up level and could not believe the differnce.I have the best looking mowing jobs in town.I could feel the tractor working harder but no great problem,and when i was done,there were no sprigs standing as there usually is.

Would like some opinions about blade types for finish mowers.I have heard about setups from different people in the business around here.I use the stock blades and a dealer told me other won't make that much difference.Some guys use other blades like gator blades,mulching blades,and high lift.One fellow even said he uses regular blades except he uses a high lift for the outer blade.I,m going to buy new sets of blades soon so any info would be of help.Thanks!

Probably a dum question,but are r-4's also rougher riding than ag tires?I'm currently running ag tires and though i don't mow lawns with the tractor,i do have to cross people's lawns to get to the work and with the wet spring and summer we are having this year,the ags can really make some marks.Anyway the reason for my origanal question is that i drive the tractor to the jobs which are usually within 2 miles,so i don't have to go out and buy a trailer,and i would be interested in how the r-4 compares to ag on the road.Thanks.

I hope this isn't a stupid question,but not all rotery mowers are for 3pt hitch.Some are tag along.What keeps them from flipping up?I Dont think they even have a top link.

This probably wouldn't pass osha standards,But usually just block up my mower and sharpen the blades without removing them with the hand grinder.Like anything else involving tractors,you have to be carefull.

Ed.All of my pto shafts are ,i think,what your describing as metric.sort of a roundish triangle with nubs.I have had no trouble with them,and i have had to shorten a couple of them.No problem as long as you measure carfully.Actually,I had to later get one of the shortened ones lengthened after i got the freedom hitch because it sets the impliment back a fue inches.

Have a danuser 24p,6",3pt. chipper with self feed and love it.What i like is if you can drive the tractor their,you can get the chipper their.As far as cost effective,i'm not sure any of my equipment is.When i'm at a job with mower,trimmer,blower,tractor and all kinds of stuff,and the young lady comes to do the gardening with some hand tools that you could buy at tag sales,and charges almost as much as i do,,well i guess it's just fun to have stuff.

Tom.I don't know if you have had a chance to use a set of bucket forks,but what your thinking is a disadvantage is actualy an advantage.By using the bucket curl it's easy to pick up a log off the ground and dump it onto a truck for example.I have also used them to get under brush and lift them right out of the ground.The ones i have go on and off in about 30 seconds.I cant remember the name right now but there made in torrington Ct..I'll take a look tomorrow if anyones interested.
