I am considering purchasing a hydraulic tree shear. To get the maximum use from the shear I need to install a 3rd SCV. Is this something that has to be done by the dealer? My dealer gave me an estimate of $1300. Does this sound right?

The Retail is listed at this website http://www.jdlawns.com/4400.htm as 210.00. I know that I paid no where near what your dealer says for mine. ....

Danny, I installed the third scv on my 4600 and my dealer only allowed me 4 hrs for shop time. Your price seems very high, call another dealer or two if available for another price. Good luck, budinohio. ....

I installed the 3rd SCV kit ($220.00) on my 4400 in about 5 hours. To adequately access the j-tubes, the seat and cover plates must be removed. A problem which cropped up was that most of the control handles are press fit to the controls and once they are removed they don't fit as tight as they did. Be sure to check the parts bags thouroughly - I got shorted 4 o-rings which held up production for a bit. The instructions and diagrams are adequate but not up to the standard of JD tech manuals. Althought the SCV lever and control line are a Rube Goldberg affair, the plumbing is well engineered and installs easily. I am very happy with the 3rd SCV unit. Good Luck. Russ ....
