I have a Yanmar 1601D. I'm thinking it has 19 hp. Uses will be from grading hardened driveways to flattening out places where stuos have been cut off. probably all conditins of work will be extreme. Unit weighs 317#. Tke tractor weighs approximatelty 1600#. Do you think weight in the front will be required.

James, somebody else will have to help you with an evaluation of the numbers quoted on the 4700 'cause I've got no experience in this area. As far as the Land Pride FDR2572 goes, I did all the comparison shopping and decided to buy one. It was to be used on a new tractor which would primarily dedicated to mowing. This would have been a mistake because I luckily happened to measure the width of my rear tires and saw that a 6 foot mower was just a little too small. If it matters to you to be able to mow wider than your tracks, I strongly suggest that you put a tape measure on a 4700 with the exact tires you will be getting, just to be sure. Don't rely on specs in a brochure that talk about tread width. I ended up with a FDR2584 and am completely satisfied. I specified air tires and got the front roller option. Besides, with the amount of property you have to care for, I'd go for a larger mower anyway.

Nuc, there is some info on MF at www.masseyferguson.com. It covers both North America and world wide. Information on specific tractor models is skimpy, but there is a "request literature" section.

For what it is worth: the 1999 Central Tractor catalog lists a 48" and a 60" snowblower, but no 54". The published PTO horsepower specs for the 48 are 12 min/20 max and 18 min/25 max for the 60.

Looks like somebody has been feeding steroids to that Deere. The radical change depicted in the photo brings to mind several questions: When changing tire sizes on a 4wd tractor(where front and rear sizes are different), how difficult is it to determine the right tires to use? Also, going to a much larger diameter tire(and making no other drivetrain changes) should alter the speed/power characteristics of the machine. What is the new top speed of the 4100 and has there been any discernable loss of power in the lower gears?

Ed: About a year ago I was considering the purchase of a new tractor and weighing the merits of large compact vs. small utility. I was impressed with the MF line and did some negotiating with a dealer that was close(very close, actually)about a utility. About this time I spotted an ad in a local ag paper for a TAFE dealer. This prompted me to do some research and I learned the same facts as previously posted. Unfortunately, the smallest 4WD tractor at the TAFE dealer was too large for my needs, although I do recall the price was attractive. My interest in TAFE ended when I made the decision to go with a compact and bought Kubota. If you're still curious about TAFE, I would suggest a visit to a dealer in your area to see what is available today. Be sure to post your findings.
