I have wondered the same thing--are they as effective as they would appear? My local TSC has had the same 4 units for sale for the past 4 years. My concern was the lower link connection looks like there would be way too much play vertically---not to mention width between pick-up points.

Does anyone sell a quick attach system not unlike that found on skid loaders that just takes a second to use?

I have a TC33D and the cost for parts alone was $280 with a discount ($360 otherwise). It is a nice kit. Had to jack up and remove the right rear tire and the inner fender splash shield. Took about an hour to install though the dealer wanted 3 or 4 if memory serves me. Be sure you get the right hydraulic connectors for the job as (at least for the 33D) NH switched to 1/2" flat face couplers--and getting spares are expensive. I just paid $53 for a female and $35 for a male to replace on a brand new NH LS180 skid loader which is the same part for the TC.

I have a TC33D which has a expanding sway control arms consisting of a solid bar with holes that slides inside a tube with corresponding holes. A pin with a keeper chain makes adjustment quick and simple. Maybe your sway links could be changed out without too much trouble. Also might want to change out the lower arms too as they have manually extending ends which make hitching up easier and quicker.

I had a hard-mounted AM/FM cassette with headphones on my New Holland TC33D---$127 piece of junk. I found myself teathered like a dog to the tractor. No good. Scrapped the radio for a hi-quality muff-style from Radio Shack for less than $50 (AM/FM mono/stereo digital receiver) . Batteries last a long time, reception is excellent, extremely durable, light weight, and allow just enough ambient noise to be safe. I had more expensive ones ($100) but they were heavy, bulky and don't allow for "breathing" of your scalp/ear area--sounds yucky but when you perspire it collects in the muff and runs down your neck!

I've got a TC33D with SS and it's great for brushogging--the rear caster almost perfectly follows right behind where the front tires left a track meaning there's very little overhang or overshooting the cutting target.

Actually, in the Automatic Mode it disengages the power to the front wheels if one front wheel spins faster than the other and/or if wheel "wrap-up" is sensed, like making a turn on pavement or even on grass. The rear wheel RPM also figures into the mix too (example in mud the wheels stay in 4WD even becuase there is no resistance sensed) . It's complicated to describe without printing all the wording from the service manual. I have it on my 33D and you don't know it is even there. If you put it full time (locked) 4WD you know it's there---it will leave tire scuff marks on pavement and tear up the grass when turning.

I have a NH33D and agree that 30hp is the least you should get--I have stalled mine a few times by being over zealous. I have 6' Piranha with carbide tips. It will go down 6" in one pass---one, slow pass! Take your dentures out or keep you mouth closed 'cause you'll lose 'em due to vibration!

The ignition interlock switch tells the system there is someone seated on the tractor, and shuts off the engine if you leave the seat after 2 seconds. It's located on the seat mounting bracket that slides back and forth. It's a little sensitive--if you turn all the way around in the seat facing backward toward the implement, it will sometimes open the circuit.

I have a landscaping/excavating business also. I use a New Holland TC33D which is perfect for landscaping. The 4x4 and Super Steer options are the way to go. It will pull a fully loaded 6' box scraper with no problem.
Price without loader out the door was $13.500, included in the package was a spring-suspended seat, cruise control, industrial tires, tilt steering wheel.

Johnnydee: At least the diesels I have in my equipment (except the Dodge Cummins) when all have run out of fuel or are starved for fuel have had a noticable increase in engine RPM. Since diesels are very closely related combustion-wise to 2 stroke gas engines (and there are 2 stroke diesels too) when the mixture leans out they will run hotter and faster for a brief moment.

Box scraper/blade: I use a 6' King Cutter from Tractor Supply. It has a blade fore and aft the box. Works great, strong unit--use commercially. I have a TC33D and have no problems pulling it through clay. Would recommend the heaviest suitcase weights for the front though---have had a few situations where the box was loaded up so much the front wheels lifted. (Suitcase weights will rub a bit with SuperSteer)

Having had five or so Warn winches in my offroading days, experience says you could get away with an 8,000lb. with a snatch block which bring it up to 16,000 minus 10% for friction at the snatch blcok, however a 10,000 alone will be perfect (most wreckers use 10,000). Personally I wouldn't bring high amperage power to the rear of the towing truck for many reasons: safety, without a fused/shutoff at the battery (otherwise always-on) in a collision that wire becomes a big, glowing, fire starter. Cost: cable large enough to carry that kind of power will cost $2-$3 a foot (most winches I have used draw as much as 475 amps at full load). Cost: Every 1,000lbs of pull costs about $100-$200 depending on mfg.. Practicality: One good pull with or without the engine running will literally kill an engine/battery (I had a full size truck stuck in mud with an 8,000 and a snatch block and it killed the engine three times--only running it full throttle kept it running). The best and cheapest way is buy two 1,000 CCA batteries and fasten them to the trailer along with the winch. Use the low-amp power from the trailer wiring connector to trickle charge the batteries when not in use.

I knew a guy who used to park his tall milk delivery truck in his residential home's garage. All he did was cut two "lanes" or paths for the tires into the garage floor.

Aside from that, modifying the ROPS seems the most economical. Probably cost about $400 for a welding shop to do. Seems simple: Four identical brackets, two bolts and pins and some cutting and welding.

I had a 1947 Fordson 9N with the same problem (miss the ol' gal--bought a new New Holland TC33D). It made a crunching/rattling sound. After tearing it down I found that big chunks of bright red cast iron rust from inside the transmission--directly over the pump--had fallen down and into the pump cavity and broke it into three pieces. $400 later for used pump parts it worked fine.

The TC40 has the "same" bumper/subframe from the engine forward as my smaller 33D. In fact, I installed the TC40's heavy duty bumper/grille guard on mine--and it bolted right up (they don't offer it for the 33D). As far as weights go there is only room for two--and for good reason: if you have supersteer like mine the tires rub just slightly lock-to-lock traversing rough terrain. Last I checked the suitcase weights are available in two different weight measures. And to be honest, I didn't really notice a change. The suitcase weights are the same ones used on newer NH skidsteers, and I'm pretty sure other NH Ag equipment (my dealer had the same weights on different eqipment in his yard and all looked the same but were painted different colors.)
You might want to consider using suitcase weights AND wheel weights.

In reply to "drcjv" above, I should have stated that my dealer, knowing I'm a contractor, cautioned me that I really shouldn't consider using a backhoe with the 33D because engines have been known to separate from the transmission due to shock loads (bolts either snap or stretch slowly then back out over time) from the backhoe mounting under the machine. I own a tractor/loader/ backhoe and have cracked the frame at the engine (it has a full frame not like the 33D's that have only a front subframe) To my mind a front loader is just as abusive on the tractor--especially all the torquing and twisting that can occur just during everyday homeowner use.

I was told the loader is rated at 800lbs.----2000lbs that's quite a bit!

There are several discussions here about fans hitting shrouds (frame twisting), front axle housing flexing and bolts breaking at the center, etc.

I did some research on this for commercially recycling shingles, though it was purely investigational.
A tub grinder is the way to go, and a hammermill is the close second. As far gumming up that was never an issue that I heard of. Shingles are primarily wood fibers held together with asphaltic oils. I would think the shingles would process better in cold weather because they would be stiffer and more prone to shattering than limp warm ones.

Just a note about the EPA, be sure to look into seeing if you would be in violation of any laws that would cause damage to the water table or streams (the land in general). Here in Michiagan you have to have a permit to recycle shingles because of water contamination and the dust emitted from the grinding operation.
Whatever you do, be sure to have some sort of very powerful magnetic device to sort out nails and staples after the chipping cycle.

Just a safety note on the gold-colored cast ring found on the bottom of New Hollands like my 33D:

My dealer gave me a bunch of them that were take-offs but warned me that they were prone to breakage---several farmers had used them as lifting rings with disasterous results. According to him they are only "shipping rings" that are intended to be removed upon delivery. My thoughts are that even though the two attaching bolts may look stout all it take is a fair amount of vibration (constant tugging up and down, back and forth) and the bolts could back out

When I tie down my machine, I have a 3" rope/chain shackle that put through the draw bar then ratchet-chain binder it down. The front rests against the inside of the dump trailer which is a no-no--it should be tied down too.

I have a 2002 TC33D with industrial tires and supersteer. On the Ford A-plan discount I paid $13,500 out the door with 6% sales tax.

I'm a residential excavating/landscaping contractor and for what I do the 33D is the perfect size. However, if I did any larger work I would have gotten the TC40 or 45. And I'd need a longer trailer--the 33D with a brushhog or power rake JUST fits on a 15' trailer.
