MM v RM finish Mower and SS

Folks,
I have benefited greatly from the wisdom of this site. I am getting close to making my purchase. I have about 4 acres of finish mowing to be done ( with some trees). The question is 1) How much time / how hard is it to take off a MM mower for the TC40D and 2) Is there any value to SS if you are not using a MM mower and use a RM mower.

Larry, it depends on your uses. NH uses the Super Steer to overcome the fact that with out it they are not the most nimble tractor. If you need manuverablity then buy the super steer. The mid mowers are not fun to remove but I would rather look down at the deck then to have to look back while mowing. ....

I have a TC45D with a 6' RMM. I don't have SS, but imagine the RMM would hit even MORE obstacles with SS. I bought my unit as a pkg, used. I would have preferred a MMM after using the RMM, except that I can remove it and put it back on in less than 3 minutes. ....

Ditto on the quick remove and replace. I like the RMM on my tractor - I lift it slightly and back up to the creek. The over hanging deck mows the banks nicely. I can do the same getting underneath pine trees. Mainly though, I like the quick removal. ....

How much time will be spent mowing versus how much time will be spent doing other things?

If you are mowing 90% of the time then you don't have to worry about the time you spend installing and removing the deck because it will almost always be on the tractor. On the other hand, if you have to remove the MMM every week, or even every other week to do something else, then you might want to consider a rear mount unit.

I mow 70% of the time with my TC24D, tending about 5 or 6 acres of grass with a rear mount mower. We have 11+ total, some lightly wooded, some heavy woods and some grass. The biggest problem is NOT the manuverability of the tractor (granted a TC24 is smaller than a TC40 and turns better) but it is the fact that the ROPS hits the smaller trees!

But at 70% of the time with a mower, I am changing implements every week or two and I would not want to mess with a mid-mount mower that often. The 3pt allows me to do some blade work and quickly with minimal cussing or bloody knuckles switch back to the mower in literally a few minutes.

ASK YOURSELF how often you will be switching implements and let that be the guide. More than once a month . . . go with the rear mower. ....

I've got a TC33D with SS and it's great for brushogging--the rear caster almost perfectly follows right behind where the front tires left a track meaning there's very little overhang or overshooting the cutting target. ....
