I seen one of these on craigslist one time and i think you might be talking about this... http://www.wikco.com/bgscraper.html it's scraper grader. My dad said they work great. Never seen one work but i'm thinking it would be useful in grading stone driveways. I think my dad said he seen them at tractor pulls years ago.

Let me know what you guys think.

Did you find a tractor yet? I see some really good deals on Craigslist once in a while. I'm pretty sure my local dealer here has access to used equipment all over.

Good luck tractor shopping. I'd guess you could find something that's a few years old in that price range. My friend was patient and found what he was looking for.

Hi Earthwrks. It's the NH T1010 fan. One thing about the bucket I liked on the NH's is that they have a square tube on the top of the bucket that goes all the way across the top. I don't think it would bend unless you rammed a telephone pole at full speed. Lifting... these engineers have this stuff figured out so the pump will stop lifting long before that bucket caves.

I have seen a friend cave in his bucket on another brand of tractor. Doesn't matter what brand as he was abusing it on a stump. Wouldn't be fair to that tractor brand to say it was any fault of theirs. However, there is nothing but a rolled piece of steel on his bucket. There's now a square tube across it. It's a lot stronger now.

My 2 cents about the size of my tractor. I had a dream once that I traded mine in on a 45 horse b/c it was a good deal. Once I got it home I realized I had nothing to use it on since i only have an acre lot. I was real upset and just wanted my little tractor back so I could cut grass, move some dirt and wood around and have some fun with it in my garden. When I woke up the first thing I did was look in my garage to make sure I still had my tractor. Since then I don't think about going bigger anymore. As all of you have said... gotta match the equipment to the job.

I'm not trying to sell NAPA brand or anything but when I bought my oil filters from my local store I asked about the specs on the oils and the filters. The NAPA guy told me that their filters and oils meet or exceed OEM requirments. I've been happy with the hydrostatic/transmission oil. I did switch over to Schaeffer motor oils in all my autos and in the tractor.

Congrats on the tractor purchase. I see you were wonderin about the boom on the back as to why you might need it. I could have used one a coupletimes when lifting something in a tight spot where the bucket won't fit. I'm sure it will come in handy for you at some point.
Another thing i'd recommend is getting to know your service guys at your dealer and purchasing a manual for it. My dad always told me if you don't get under it you won't get to know it. I have spent a more than a few hours changing oils and greasing my subcompact new holland. I found a few things out about it by just poking around.
Anyways... have fun and I'm sure you will find plenty of uses for your tractor.

Have either of you guys had the chance to see a subcompact work with the backhoe attachment? I've been interested in one for a while but not sure about making the purchase. Well, pretty sure I don't need it but it would be fun to play with. I'd imagine it would be good for digging some trenches. Problem is, it's a real expensive toy.
