I have owned a Kioti LB1914 for about a year now. I bought it used with 60 hours on it. I use it for bush hogging loader work and grading and it works fine for me.

My turn now. Been there done that. I had two 100'(or so)hemlocks come down in a wind storm here in Wa. They were (parts still are) laying accross a hill side. Trunk diameter at the bottom about 26-30". I broke out the chain saws (20" bar is my "big one"), limbed them and I used my 6000# class mini excavator and a cat choker from Bailey's (http://www.arborists.com/BAILEYS/baileys.htm)with extra cable to drag (or carry)out lengths to where I'd cut them into rounds for firewood. I wouldn't have used my wheel tractor on that ground however. Be sure to stay uphill from the limbed logs and rounds. When they get going there's no stopping them.

My buddy bought a 1210 (non hydro) with about the same hours with loader, blade, mower, post hole digger for $6,000. Out here in western Washington that's a hell of a deal.

I wown a little trackhoe (excavator) of 23 hp (Yanmar). It weighs around 6000 lbs and will outperform a compact backhoe but is less powerful than a 580 of course. It can get places no wheel tractor would dare to go. I still need a loader however.

If you are competent with a welder you can build a ROPS. It is not rocket science. If you want guidlines on roll over protection for reference just see your local auto racing sanctioning body (SCCA, USAC, etc). A race car roll cage/bar is a tough structure and is overkill for a compact tractor. I would not recommend copying what is often mounted in the bed of trucks as a lot of these are just for show and are thin wall tubing. Make sure you mount it to sturdy structure and use good grade fasteners. I will be building one for my little excavator soon as I'm tired of being bashed by tree parts while

I have seen quick release 3 pt setups to mount on cat 1 tractors in catalogs (Northern). I don't know how good they work or if they'd help your situation. Maybe someone else has experience with them and can comment.

I can't see that littlejob thing being anywhere close to a compact the size of a 1215 as far as performance goes.

How about a couple of push button switches (steering wheel mounted) to activate lights on each side of the ROPS? You would only turn a light on when you were looking over the side. The bugs wouldn't always be there and it would lessen your charging system load too.

Sounds scary to me. Unless I was qualified to make the repairs myself (as in good welder with experience in these areas) I wouldn't want to get involved. As the other person here mentioned it does sound abused.

My yanmar excavator has wire around the hoses (like a coil spring) in locations where they are most vulnerable to damage. It makes them pretty tough.

I have a little (23hp) Yanmar excavator and have got a number of fir and cedar stumps out with it. I have found that in my soil digging around it and then tipping the stump off the resulting column of dirt/clay that it ends up on top of. Once tipped I dig more dirt off the bottom of it to lighten it and then I have it down to about 1000-1500lbs and I can tumble it along if it's too heavy to pick up between the hoe and blade. I end up with a pretty big hole. I take my time also so as not to abuse the digger or get hurt. If I had a lot of large stumps I'd probably rent a bigger excavator that can just grab them and rip them out.

How do you get stumps out
