I recently installed the NH block heater in my TC 25D. What a difference that makes in starting the tractor! I would highly recommend the $17 investment. Does anyone know why they changed the shade of blue?

If it helps, in June 99 I paid 12900 for a TC25D (without SS) and 3600 for the loader, totalling 16500. It was the best price I could find in Maryland and Virginia. By the way, I have 210 hours on my tractor and love it. I have had no problems at all and it has worked very hard. One tip, have the dealer put in the $17 block heater. What a difference that made and it was a little tricky to install myself. Good luck.

Can anyone tell me a good source to order filters at a reasonable price for my TC25D? I am currently buying from the local dealer. Talk about price gouging!

Paul, hydraulic cylinder speed is strictly a function of flow rating. A 4 inch cylinder will extend at the rate of 18 inches a minute times the gpm of your machine (18 times 8 gpm flow = 144 inches per minute). They retract faster depending on the cylinder size. A 5 inch cylinder extends at 12 inches per minute times flow rate. I guess if your tractor hydraulics are up to specs you could compare the the speeds of cylinder movement against the PTO pump rating of flow. Keep in mind a PTO pump rated at 10 GPM and 2500 PSI will need about 17 PTO hp, increase the pump to 15 gpm and 2500 PSI requires 26 hp. I have most of my hydraulic experience through the school of hard luck until I read a set of manuals titled "Industrial Fluid Power" vols 1-3 that I bought from the Surplus center catalog.

I have not built a loader from their plans but I did purchase a set of backhoe plans from them and can attest to the quality of the plans. It was my intention to build a backhoe directly from the plans but shortly after I purchased them I lucked upon a rusted out 3 point ford backhoe that needed complete rebuilding. The CAD plan instructions are very thorough and still leave enough custom planning if you have different cylinders or material available. There were numerous times while rebuilding the Ford backhoe that I referred to the CAD plans for reassurance that the longer booms and tubing I was using was of sufficient strength. (I greatly increased the capability of the original backhoe with a longer main and ext boom and bigger cylinders.) If you consider yourself a fair welder and have a means of cutting 4 in tubing and 1/2 inch steel then go for the cad plans and have a good time. I would say that his estimates on time and material are very realistic.

Have you had any concerns about HP now that you've had a chance to play. I'm planning on buying something in the next week. The dealer has a 29D in stock, but recommends turf tires. I'm concerned they may slip while pulling stumps and thus the 4hp will be wasted

I am in the process of rebuilding a Ford 757A 3pt backhoe. I have rebuilt/replaced the booms, bucket and cylinders. My question is how to arrange the joy stick handles to operate the booms and bucket in the most efficient manner. I have never operated a backhoe so was wondering which combination of boom and bucket movement will leave a trench level. I realize experience will help in the long run. Any advice on this would be appreciated.

The tractors are probably pretty similar! Look at the dealer and the service you will get from them. I would gladly pay an extra $500.00 if I knew it would give me better service. The dealer I chose sent someone(within 1/2 hour of my call) out to look at my tractor when it quit running at 4:00 on a Saturday afternoon. It was just a wire that came loose, but I earned a lot of respect for my dealer from that. The tractor is green if that makes any difference.

You would be amazed at what you can use a loader for once you have one! Getting the garbage to the curb becomes a more enjoyable task. I grew up with a full size backhoe/loader in the backyard, so when I bought my 4100 last year, there was no question in getting the loader. It is a great loader, but you have to remember it is small. It will move lots of dirt a little at a time. Don't get me wrong, the loader has no problems handling a full bucket, the bucket is just small, after all it is a COMPACT tractor. I love having it and would not give it up for anything! BUY IT!!! You will come up with so many uses for it.

I cannot help you find skidshoes, but I was thinking, just thinking, of adding some industrial grade casters to my blade. They are relatively inexpensive but would require a piece of angle iron for attachment. I have used the blade without anything for snow removal, and the only problem is that the loose gravel on the surface gets pushed with the snow and ends up in the yard. Other than that, it works great. If I did not have grass along the drive, or if the drive was a hard surface I would not bother. I did find that I could lower the blade almost all the way to control how much surface gravel I picked up.

I think the main reason you do not hear about cubs here is the availability. I am in SE Michigan, I have about 4 Deere dealers within 20 miles, about 3 New Holland within 30 miles, and one Cub dealer about 50 miles away. I would have considered one more if I had a dealer closer.

I have a 4100 with loader and got the R4's with it. The only traction problems have to do with the weight of the tractor and not the ability of the tire to grab dirt. I have been through a winter and a summer with them and like them! I know that the R1's would leave too many marks in my yard, and suspect(I cannot say for sure) that the turfs would not have the traction I want outside of the lawn. I think the R4's are a good comprimise!

I know this is probably a stupid question, but, I am doing the 50 hour service on my tractor. I noticed dirt/dust starting to build up under the hood, on the engine, etc. I was thinking as long as it was new, it would sure be nice to keep it looking that way!<br>What is the best way to clean it(inside the engine compartment)? Will squirting it with a hose push water into somewhere that it should not be? Can you use a pressure washer? The manual does not warn against anything as far as cleaning, but does not direct anything either. Any suggestions are welcome since the last thing I want to do is to take it to the dealer because I did something stupid!

I have a 4100 and have been following all the posts regarding backhoes. I was wondering what is out there as far as aftermarket backhoes that would fit on this size tractor. How are the hookups on after market ones? Do they mount to the 3 pt or do they need a subframe? On this size of tractor, how usefull are they? Will they be like the loader I have and very usefull? Also, what about prices, what is the least expensive hoe to be worth buying?<br>Thanks for any help!

I have a 5' landpride for my 4100. It ran in the 300 range, do not really remember. It is a good heavy blade. I like it. I do not know too much about the others. I would not have any reservations about recommending one to a freind.

I have had a 4100 gear with a loader for about a year now. I have had no problems, and have no complaints! I have a 5' land pride rear blade. I also have a 5' finishing mower which is a 500# implement and have no problems. The 4100 has a 3pt. capacity of around 900# (I think), so you should be able to put on just about anything. After having this for a year, I have no regrets about buying it. I just wish all of the attachments were not so expensive.<br> As far as the PTO is concerned, if you go to a dealer to look at the tractor, look under the seet. There is a safety switch under it for the PTO. You just pull up the plunger and move a wire support to hold the seat off the switch.<br><br>Good luck!

Ok, I finally found out from the local AC dealer that they were made by Toyosha. Now you guys have something to go on so hopefully you can tell me more about these Toyousha / Allis Chalmers 6140 diesel tractors. Thanks in advance.
