I have owed a 850 JD for the past 20 years and now in the market for a smaller tractor since I no longer have pastures to bushhog. I have looked at a 4115 JD 4-wd w/FEL and a 2410 Kubota 4wd w/FEL. I have had good service out of my JD but the Kubota is considerably cheaper. Will be used mainly for light grading and moving firewood. Looking for feedback pro/con on each.

Rex, you have had a JD 850 for 20 years and only put 296 hrs on it? That tractor should bring a premium price.
Maybe you need to drop down a notch or two, on your next tractor. ....

I question the need to even step down at all.
A JD850 is not that large a machine and if it is low hours, you know by now the machine is NOT a lemon and your happy with your dealer why mess with a good thing.
Take the money you would have spent on the trade up and buy yourself a nice fishing boat. Now that's economy.
Best of luck. ....

The JD / Kubota thing gets a lot of milieage on this site. The differences have more to do with creature features than anything else. Drive them both, there are differences in the controls for the hydrostats and the FELs. See which one you are most comfortable with, and most important, which dealer you think will service you best. Neither machine gets much negative press on this site. ....

Correct, my 850 does not have 4wd or a FEL. It also does not have power steering. I'm getting ready to retire and want something that handles a little easier and will be more usefull to me. I looked at adding power steering and a FEL to the 850 but the cost seemed high (about $5000 from the dealer). I was also told I really need a 4wd with a FEL. Never had one before but could sure use one now. ....

Quality wise, I think you would be happy with either machine. I think the 2710 is a better match-up to the 4115 because the wheelbase and weight are more similar.
The 65 inch wheelbase and 1700+ weight does make a difference in ride quality and overall traction. ....

The Kubota's have been known for above average quality in the industry for years. There are some things here like your low hours and the fact you must have a local dealer that knows you and your needs. That is tough to beat when making desisions that will affect you for the next ? number of years. When buying a compact they should have four wheel drive with a loader and that also brings power steering into play. ....

grizzle I know this will be hard to do. I had to do the same. Sell a deere and buy a kubota. You will be much happer with it. I bought another B series to replace my B7500, the 2710 would be the smallest i would go. But a 2410 would be a good choice. Its a deluxe model, so its loaded. ....

ithastobetheoneIown, do you have to go down this road EVERY time this topic comes up? There are good and bad points to both brands. They're both good machines, and this partisan color debate has been thrashed to death. Dealer support is as or more important than the color, and the one that feels right is probably the ONE. ....
